Colmore Junior School

Summer term week37

Highlights of the week

We have had another incredibly busy and vibrant week here at school! It was wonderful to see our children stepping up and experiencing a lesson with their new classes this week and welcoming the Year 2 children from the Infant School, while our Year 6 pupils took an exciting step forward by visiting their upcoming secondary schools.  It was great to see our new Year 3 parents in school this week at our presentation and coffee morning. Creativity and history also took centre stage! On Monday, Year 4 transported us back in time with a fantastic Egyptian Day. We have also been treated to some wonderful musical talent, with beautiful performances from our violin and viola players, alongside an energetic concert from our brilliant Rocksteady bands. Thank you to all the children who performed so confidently.

Looking Ahead: Monday Morning & The Big Match!

We know that excitement is building across the nation for the England vs. Mexico game at 1:00 am this coming Monday. While we completely understand that many of our pupils will want to stay up late to cheer on the team, our school day starts at the usual time, and we cannot alter our morning registration. We are incredibly keen to keep our attendance figures as high as they usually are, so we have come up with the following:

  • The Match is On! As a reward for getting to school on time, we will be letting the children watch a replay of the match as soon as registration is complete.  Sadly, we will not be able to anything about any spoilers!
  • Alternative Activities: We know football isn’t for everyone! For children who are not interested in the game, activities and full work options will be running as normal.

We want Monday to be a brilliant, positive day for everyone, and ensuring your child arrives on time is the best way to kick off the week. Thank you, as always, for your continued support with our school attendance. Wishing you all a wonderful, restful weekend! Warm regards

We started our music concerts this week with the violin and viola performance in the hall. Over 50 children played together all the way from our very early starters through to our Grade 5 year 6 soloist. Massive thanks to Mrs Baptiste who works so hard with our upper string pupils.
Year 4 enjoyed their Egyptian Day this week. They looked incredible and made some wonderful Pectoral necklaces as part of the day.
Year 5 have continued to work on their design projects by building paper versions of Greek temples. We then tested them to see how much weight they could sustain. One structure held 4kg!

A group of children in 3C used their creative skills to make some paper creations including chatterboxes and ninja stars to then sell in the playground for charity.

4R have been looking at food chains and created these wonderfully unique food chain pictures out of coloured card. They are looking forward to sharing them with the residents of Pineapple Place in the last week of term.

Year 3 had their buddy swaps with year 2 children. As part of the session they had a go at mirror drawing. It was lovely to see such great team work. They were such role models for our new pupils.

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
