FROM THE Principal’s Desk

Dear Bluejay Family,

Thank you for a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! This week will be our last before beginning Lent during our Mardi Gras break. This bulletin will have lots of information on the details of the week, as our PBL activity is fast approaching. Please be sure to read it carefully.

As we approach the beginning of Lent next week, there are several simple yet impactful actions you can take to engage with your children. Fostering family prayer time, discussing age-appropriate Lenten commitments with our children, exploring educational resources, engaging in local service opportunities, creating a simple Lenten calendar, and attending the Ash Wednesday Mass together are a few examples. These intentional actions help enhance the meaning of the liturgical season. May this Lent be a time of spiritual renewal and growth for each member of our St. Cecilia family.

Grace and Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

Mentor Monday

Students in grades 6-8 will have Mentor Monday this upcoming week. Students, please make sure to ask your mentor for help with anything you may need going into the back half of the quarter.

Mardi Gras PBL Parade Day Information

Every spring, leading up to the Mardi Gras break, our students take part in a project-based learning unit linked to a school-wide theme. Each class comes up with a driving question to research, collaborate, and construct a solution to an authentic problem. The unit is connected to content standards and takes 2-3 weeks to complete. At the end of the unit, each class celebrates with a Mardi Gras parade showcasing their theme. Please join us at our annual Mardi Gras event as we 'Parade through the Parishes!'

SCS Mass

This week’s Mass is Wednesday at 8:30 and will be hosted by 7th grade boys. There is limited seating in church, the choir loft, Narthex and PLC. You can also join us online at shbroussard.org/live or the St. Cecilia Facebook page.

SCS Mass Music Playlist:

  • Processional: “Here I Am to Worship”
  • Offertory: “Build My Life”
  • Communion: “Breathe”, “10,000 Reasons”
  • Recessional: “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High”

Lent

This is our last week before the season of Lent. The three pillars of the Lenten season are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These look many different ways for people. Almsgiving can be giving more in your weekly offertory at Mass to giving of your time by serving others to giving of excess possessions. Fasting can be not eating chocolate to not gossiping to limiting time on social media. Prayer might be saying a rosary on the way to school instead of listening to the radio or making time in your day to go to the Adoration Chapel or waking up 15 minutes earlier for silent prayer time.

There are many ways to make your Lent more meaningful and reflective. We pray that in these upcoming weeks we may all commit to personal sacrifices as we prepare for the remembrance of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us.

Dear Bluejay Family,

Basketball is over at St. Cecilia. Congratulations to all of our teams for competing and representing us so well all season long. The future is bright for basketball! We bid farewell to our 8th grade boys as their season came to an end on Thursday night. We will certainly miss them. They gave us TWO buzzer beaters and a runner up season to remember them this year. Thank you boys for the memories! Thanks to all of our coaches and fans for their support of basketball all season long. The season was certainly an enjoyable one. The support of our parents was nothing short of amazing. Your help made the home games run smoothly. We have a reputation for being gracious hosts to all of our guests even to the point where officials are lobbying to come to our gym to work!

Baseball and softball started practicing this week as their season kicks off when we return from Mardi Gras. We are looking to build on last year’s success. We are excited to be able to field a full complement of teams this year. The schedule will be released soon and posted to the calendar.

SCS will host its annual Cheer Clinic on Saturday, February 24th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the school gym. It is open to girls in Pre-K to 5th grade. The deadline to register and still receive a t-shirt is Wednesday, February 7th. The cost is $40. Please follow the link below to register and see the attached flier for more information. Thanks to Coaches, Taylor Serio, Holly Leger, and Ashley Sonnnier for putting this on for our kids!

Registration has not begun for these sports. This is informational so that you can plan the rest of the year. The tentative schedule for the rest of the season is as follows:

  • Swimming- March 9th to May 3rd
  • Golf- March 26th to May 9th
  • Track- April 2nd to May 10th
  • Tennis– April 4th to May 9th

In an effort to improve our athletic programs at St. Cecilia, it was felt that a comprehensive athletic handbook was needed. This handbook affects players, coaches, parents, and fans. Parent/guardian completion of this form and adherence to the rules and regulations outlined in the handbook are requirements for participation in athletic programs at St. Cecilia School. The link below will take you to the handbook. It is also on the school website for reference as well. Thank you all for your continued support of SCS Athletics.

For those that have already completed the acknowledgement form, and want to refresh themselves on the rules and regulations, please follow the link below.

We are so proud of our SCS 7/8th Grade football, 5th Grade White and 7th Grade volleyball teams' fantastic accomplishments this fall. We can now officially celebrate our championships in volleyball and football by purchasing apparel from Action Specialties. These are school approved and can be worn as part of the school uniform. There is a tab on the top horizontal bar for championship apparel. Thanks again for your support of SCS Athletics!

Thank you for your support of SCS Athletics! To keep up with the schedule for our Bluejays, please follow the link below. Admission into League games are $6 for adults and $1 for kids. SCS staff and students are admitted free.

Have a blessed day,
