Message from Mrs Broadhead, Principal
Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break. It is a pleasure to welcome everyone back to school as we begin our Summer Term, always one of the busiest and most exciting times in the school year. The term ahead is filled with opportunities for learning, growth and celebration. As the days become brighter, we look forward to making the most of our outdoor spaces, enriching the curriculum with trips and activities and continuing to support every child in achieving their very best. A special mention must go to our Year 6 children, who will soon be sitting their SATs. These assessments begin shortly, (Monday, May 11 to Thursday, May 14, 2026) and we are incredibly proud of the effort, determination and resilience the children have shown in preparing for them. We encourage all Year 6 children to approach the tests with confidence and to simply do their best. Thank you to families for your continued support at home, ensuring children are well-rested and on time each day; it makes a real difference. As always, attendance and punctuality remain a key priority for us. Every day in school counts and being on time helps children start their day positively and ready to learn, with the added bonus of having a slice of toast everyday. We also have a number of exciting events planned this term and further information will be shared in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on newsletters like this one and MCAS communications so you don’t miss out. Thank you, as ever, for your ongoing support. We look forward to a successful and enjoyable Summer Term together.

World Book Day 2026
Our World Book Day celebrations were full of warmth, excitement and a real love of reading. With our 'Cosy Reading' theme, children arrived in pyjamas or comfy clothes and enjoyed a magical day of stories, reading activities, a book swap and our wonderful Book in a Box competition. It was a lovely way to celebrate books and encourage children to see reading as something joyful, relaxing and special.
“I loved coming to school in my pyjamas and sharing stories with my friends.”
DRET Cross Country Finals
A huge well done to all of the children who took part in the DRET Cross Country Finals.
They represented the school brilliantly, showing determination, resilience and a fantastic attitude throughout the event. We were incredibly proud of the effort and sportsmanship shown by every child and it was wonderful to see them challenge themselves and enjoy competing alongside children from other DRET schools.
Netball with Steph Hanslip
We were delighted to welcome Steph Hanslip into school for a fantastic day of netball. Throughout the day, the children took part with enthusiasm, positivity and a brilliant attitude, making the most of the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence. It was wonderful to see them so engaged and eager to learn and we were very proud of how well they represented our school. A big thank you to Steph for leading such a successful day.
Toothbrushing Sessions with MyDentist
Heather and Amy from MyDentist delivered some really valuable toothbrushing sessions for our children. They explained the importance of caring for our teeth in a fun and accessible way, helping children understand how to brush effectively and why healthy habits matter. The sessions were both practical and engaging and the children took away lots of useful advice to use at home.
“I learned how to brush my teeth properly so I can keep them clean and healthy.”
Rugby with Hull KR
There was a real buzz around school during our rugby day with Hull KR. Children threw themselves into the sessions, showing great enthusiasm as they practised new skills and took part in team activities. It was especially lovely to see the encouragement they gave each other and the determination they showed when trying something new. The day was full of energy and enjoyment from start to finish.
Year 5 - London
For Year 5, their visit to London was an experience they will remember for a long time. Thanks to Children’s University, the children had the chance to explore the capital, take in the incredible views from the London Eye and spend time discovering the many wonders of the Science Museum. The trip was packed with excitement and gave children the chance to see and experience things far beyond their everyday lives.
Year 4 - Seashore Safari
Year 4 enjoyed a day of discovery on their Seashore Safari in Flamborough, kindly funded by Children’s University. Armed with curiosity and excitement, the children explored the shoreline, searched rock pools and learned more about the creatures and habitats found along the coast. Being able to experience this learning in the outdoors made the day even more memorable and gave children plenty to talk about afterwards.
Match Day Takeover at Bridlington Town AFC
Some lucky children had a fantastic time taking part in the Match Day Takeover at Bridlington Town AFC. From seeing behind the scenes to being part of the matchday experience, the event gave them a brilliant insight into everything that goes into a game day. The children represented the school superbly, showing confidence, enthusiasm and maturity throughout. It was a memorable opportunity and one that the children will be talking about for a long time.
“It was so exciting being part of the match day and seeing it all happen for real. Being a ball boy was the best!”
Year 3 & 4 - Spring Chicken
We rounded off the term in the best possible way with Year 3 and 4’s fantastic performance of Spring Chicken. The children sang with confidence, performed with great enthusiasm and brought plenty of energy and enjoyment to the stage. It was wonderful to see their hard work come together in such a cheerful and entertaining performance, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone watching!
🎯 Attendance Matters
Good attendance supports children to feel confident, happy and successful in school. Thank you for continuing to prioritise attendance and punctuality — it makes a huge difference to learning. If you have any concerns surrounding your child's attendance or punctuality, please contact Mrs Craven via the school office.

Reminders
Our lost property collection in the foyer is continuing to grow. If your child is missing any clothing or other belongings, please take a moment to have a look. Naming items clearly really does help us to return them to their owners much more easily.
You said, we did!
You said: You wanted more focus on children’s wellbeing. We did: We have introduced even more regular wellbeing check-ins and expanded our pastoral support throughout our school. We now have Mrs Barnhill and Mrs Cawkill both ELSA trained at Quay Academy, which means that they are specifically trained to support children's emotional wellbeing in schools.
Asthma Friendly School Status
We are very proud to share that Quay Academy has been awarded Asthma Friendly School Status for 2026–2027. This is a wonderful recognition of the care, support and attention we give to children with asthma across the school day. To receive this award, we demonstrated that key standards are in place to help keep children safe, including trained staff, clear procedures, strong communication with families and the availability of emergency asthma medication in school. These measures help to ensure that children with asthma are well supported and able to take part fully in school life.
