PRINCIPAL MessagE

Dear parents and carers,

We have had a lovely glimpse of summer this week, and the children have thoroughly enjoyed spending more time learning and playing outside.

With the recent spell of warmer weather, we remind our children to stay safe by using the Phrase SLIP SLAP SLOP, SEEK and SLIDE.

We would also like to remind families of a few important points:

  • Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day.
  • Sun hats are encouraged for outdoor playtimes.
  • Sunscreen should be applied before school, as staff are not able to apply this during the day.
  • Children should attend school in the correct summer uniform

Thank you for your support in helping us keep all children safe, comfortable, and ready to learn during the warmer days ahead.

As we arrive at middle of this half term, children and staff have been fully immersed in learning and academy life. Year 6 have settled well and are engaging positively in their final revision and preparation ahead of next month’s SATs. They are demonstrating a strong work ethic and growing independence, which will support them well as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

We are also beginning preparations for the upcoming phonics and multiplication screening checks. Children are practising regularly in school, and we encourage continued practice at home to build confidence and fluency. Please note that there has been a change to this year’s Sports Day, which was previously advertised. Updated details, including dates and timings, have been shared above and via MCAS. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility, and we look forward to welcoming you to this special event. It’s always one of our favourites!

As we approach the busiest part of the academic year, can I please remind you to regularly check Keeping In Touch and MCAS for the latest updates, important information, and reminders about upcoming events. These platforms are our main source of communication and will ensure you do not miss any key messages from school. Thank you for your continued support in staying connected with school life. As always, enjoy your family together. Mrs Nicholls.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Year 6 sats

Our Year 6 children will be sitting their SATs papers soon. We want to ensure that we share information about the SATs week and arrangements in preparation and support. SATs week begins on Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th. There are no tests on the Friday.   To ensure all children attend school and are ready for the week, we host a daily SATs breakfast (Monday to Thursday). Children are to arrive to the academy a little earlier than usual and we will provide them with time to have breakfast together and socialise. In past years, this has proven to be supportive of children's well-being and allows them to settle and to talk about the SATS ahead of the tests. Teachers and the pastoral team will be present and on hand should the children need any support. Children should arrive at 8:00am at the side gate for the earlier start and breakfast.   Below is further information on the testing window:   Monday 11th May – Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling papers Tuesday 12th May - Reading paper Wednesday 13th May - Maths papers 1 and 2 Thursday 14th May - Maths paper 3   We wish our Year 6 children all the best and are extremely proud of their hard work and attitude towards their personal attainment. Please find further information and helpful tips to support your child ahead of the assessment week on the following link   Parent SATs Information – Darlinghurst Academy
