Overview: Why Portfolios?
Creating a Career Skills Portfolio in Adobe Express enables anyone to easily and powerfully tell the story of who they are and what they can do. A Career Skills Portfolio affords you the opportunity to collect experiences, projects, and credentials that demonstrate your abilities, and it enables you to recollect your development through reflection.
The Career Skills Portfolio project template gets you going fast, because it leverages the Adobe Express Webpage feature. This media-rich portfolio is a dynamic complement to a print-based (PDF) resume because the portfolio doesn’t just list your credentials and experiences, it brings them to life in your unique, authentic voice. There are dozens of ways to create a digital portfolio, but there is nothing as powerful, easy-to-use, and professional as a portfolio made in Adobe Express with Firefly AI.
As you read through the instructions and study the inspirational sample portfolio in this module, notice how the portfolio is not just a boring list of accomplishments with some photos or video slapped together. It’s actually a well-crafted story—a narrative—that thoughtfully connects lived experiences with specific in-demand skills that have developed as a result. Even though the portfolio may be organized like snapshots in a photo album, when you zoom out and consider the collection as a whole, it tells a one-of-a-kind human story from beginning to end. It’s like a movie or a novel about you—one that you wrote, you own, and that Generative AI could never authentically reproduce.
The earlier you start building a Career Skills Portfolio in Adobe Express, the earlier you will begin collecting and showcasing your best work in a way that makes it easy for you to tell and share your story—so that you’re not just claiming that you have experiences and skills, you are showing others who you are. There is specific reason that this Portfolios Module is use-case #1 within the larger Adobe Express Modules Library: it's because it is a "meta-modality," meaning a Portfolio is a way to contain or collect all of the other modalities in one place. And once you experience adding initial projects and credentials into your Career Skills Portfolio, subsequent projects will become more meaningful and engaging because you are more connected to tangible destinations, purposes, and audiences for your ideas. You are actively creating your future!
Sample Prompt and Rubric
The overall purpose of this sample project is to help students document and reflect on career-related skills developed during academic and professional experiences. Using Adobe Express, students will create a portfolio of work demonstrating career readiness and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
Attribution
The Adobe Express and Podcast Modules Library is simultaneously available as a website or as Course Cartridge (IMSCC format) to import into any campus' LMS. As an OER resource, it can be duplicated and remixed without attribution (although credit is welcome), with two stipulations: it may not be re-packaged for sale or commercial use, and it cannot be used to support software, applications, or platforms other than Adobe.
