Note from Mr Higginbottom

Hello! Welcome back - or welcome to our school! It has been a delight to welcome so many new families into our school community this week. Our children have made such a fabulous, focussed start to the new school year. They have shown great attitudes towards learning and it is wonderful to see them so settled in their new classes.

We have introduced children to our newly simplified code of conduct. We are focussing on them being: ready, respectful and safe. We hope that this supports children to make independent decisions about appropriate behaviour, how to conduct themselves and build effective relationships with their friends. Children have responded really well so far, and we will support them to learn more about these expectations in the coming weeks.

We've got plenty of events planned in already this year. Have a look at the dates for your diary section at the end of the newsletter - we will update this every time new things are added and teachers plan in parents' evenings, etc. Any missing at the moment will be added in soon.

Attendance continues to be a focus for us this year. I thought it might be helpful to share each class's attendance each week, rather than just letting you know which class has won. It is important to note that 'good' attendance is above 97%! Children missing days of school often will quickly fall below this good level. Please help our school to keep being great by ensuring that your children attend regularly. We will continue to reward great attendance as this is such a significant achievement. There is a very clear link between children's achievement and their attendance.

A round up of the week's events

Visits out of school are planned for the year ahead and we look forward to sharing details of these with you as we get closer to each event.

Online Safety

This week's information about Online Safety focuses on the app: Threads. Don't forget you can talk to us if you're worried about your child's time online.

If you'd like more information from National Online Safety, try their app which is available to download.

Attendance Expectations
Uniform Expectations

Please support your children by ensuring they are following the required uniform expectations, including on PE days. Children should be dressed in a yellow or black polo shirt and black trousers, skirt, shorts or plain black leggings. Yellow gingham dresses may also be worn. Black cardigans or hoodies can be worn with or without the school logo. For PE, children need their white school PE top or plain white T-shirt and black shorts or tracksuit bottoms. No football shirts please. Please may we remind you to label your child's uniform with their name.

Dates for your Diary
Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you for your continued support of our school and for supporting your child by ensuring they're at school on time and they read at least 4 times each week. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's time in school you can email enquiries@sqp.wwpat.org, find me on ClassDojo or chat to me at the start or end of the school day.

At Swinton Queen Primary School, children are aspirational, courageous and inquisitive; respectful of all.
