As For Me and My House, We Will... The Joshua Series

and Joshua said to the people of Israel...

Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed. Joshua 23:14

Keep God's promises in front of you.

Do you know them? Try to list as many as you can. Click below for some help.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:3-4

From 2 Peter 1:3-4, what is the pathway of participating in God's nature (i.e. having everything we need for life and godliness)?

How important are God's promises in your life?

Be a member of God's house.

If you want to be a lone-ranger Christian, you will not last. You are an easy target for the enemy. Think of one Israelite going by themselves to defeat a city and clear land for themselves. That would never work.

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
As you come to him, the living Stone —rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5

These verses are written to you ALL as the church. God sees us as connected together. We are a family.

Do you feel like you are a part of the family of God? Why or why not?

Throw away the foreign gods among you.

Now then,” said Joshua, “throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.” Joshua 24:23

What are foreign gods among us?

Loving the creation over the Creator. Trying to receive love from creation over the Creator.

What were the "foreign gods" around the Israelites? They were common things - pieces of wood and stone - that were set up as objects of worship and love.

Read Isaiah 44:16-20.

What does this passage say about foreign gods?

Read Isaiah 44:21-22.

What does this tell you about God's character?

Choose to serve the Lord.

Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14-15

Read Romans 10:9-10.

Read Matthew 7:21-23.

From the passages above, what does it mean to live with Jesus as Lord of your life?

Both our declaration and our lifestyle of obedience show that we are living with Jesus as Lord of our lives. There is no other type of Christianity. Either Jesus is Lord of all your life, or he is not Lord of your life at all!

Take time to surrender before Jesus. Tell Him that He is Lord of your life. Tell someone else that Jesus is Lord of your life (that makes it real). Now ask Jesus how you can specifically obey Him today.

Take time to worship Jesus as Lord.
