Come, Holy Spirit

As we journey through the liturgical year, we celebrate Pentecost, a significant and joyful feast in our Catholic faith. Often referred to as the “birthday of the Church,” Pentecost marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, empowering them with courage, wisdom, and the ability to share God’s message with people of all nations. This event, which took place 50 days after Easter, is described in the Acts of the Apostles. The apostles, once fearful and uncertain, were transformed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. They went out into the world to spread the Good News, beginning the mission of the Church that continues to this day. Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is alive and active in our lives—guiding us, strengthening us, and calling us to live as followers of Christ. In our school community, we pray that the Spirit fills our hearts with peace, kindness, and understanding, helping us grow as a vibrant and faith-filled community. May we continue to be inspired by the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we learn, lead, and serve one another each day.

Celebrating Outstanding Communication – Thank You, to our Community!

We are proud to share some exciting news with our school community! Thanks to your support and kind nominations, our school has once again been recognized with the Rev. John Markle Award for Outstanding Home-School Communication for the 2025–2026 school year. This marks the second consecutive year that we have received this honour—an achievement that reflects our shared commitment to strong communication and collaboration. Durham Catholic District School Board schools are dedicated to engaging with families and communities through communication that is timely, effective, and transparent. This award is especially meaningful because it is based on nominations submitted by you, the families, who feel their school has excelled in keeping them informed and connected. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the families who took the time to submit nominations on our behalf. Your feedback and support mean a great deal, and this recognition truly belongs to our entire school community. Ms. Gad and Mr. Linhares will be attending the Board Meeting on Monday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. to officially receive the award. The meeting will be live-streamed on the DCDSB YouTube channel, and we invite all members of our community to tune in and celebrate with us. Thank you once again for your continued partnership and for helping make our school a place where communication and connection thrive!

Safety Reminder for Drop-Off and Pick-Up

The safety of our students, families, and staff remains our top priority. As we continue through the school year, we kindly ask for your cooperation and extra caution during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Please note that staff supervision begins at 8:30 a.m., and the morning bell rings at 8:45 a.m. We ask that students not be dropped off before supervision begins, as supervision is not available prior to that time. When using the Kiss and Ride, please ensure that your child exits the vehicle on the side closest to the sidewalk, not the driveway side. This helps us maintain a safe and efficient flow of traffic. If you arrive after the bell has rung, all students must enter through the main doors. In these cases, and with our younger students, parents/guardians are asked to safely exit your vehicle and assist your child to the main entrance. We appreciate your continued attention to these procedures and thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.

Are you Moving by September 2026?

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, we kindly ask families to let us know if your child(ren) will be moving or will not be returning to St. Bernadette Catholic School by September 2026. If this applies to your family, please complete the form below and return it to the school office as soon as possible. Please note complete as much information as you can at this time, and the last day of school for students is Thursday, June 25, 2026. This information is essential as it supports our class organization process and helps us make thoughtful and appropriate student placements for next year. Thank you for your time and cooperation. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
