WOW of the week! 2nd October 2023 October Already!

October is Black History Month

October is Black History Month. Therefore, I will be sharing a wide range of creatives to continue to champion and share all the incredible work being produced. The video showcases the next generation of Black Artists who are making sure their stories, which have been so readily ignored in the past, are shared. Using imagery of classical art, at times, and making their own vibrant and exciting work. Use this as a starting point for your own research, you can also go back through previous blogs to find all our other suggestions!

Then in the rest of the blog, I have shared a wide range of creatives who are making spectacular visual work, from intricate symmetry to giant flags made from polluting gas to portal to another world. Really exciting stuff. Following Monday's excellent Exhibition we wanted to keep the momentum up inspiring you to continue to produce incredible art whatever the medium. There are fun videos about fashion and a guy walking around New York discovering new artists. Sometimes the simple ideas work too.

We hope you enjoy it!

NETFLIX: THE ROALD DAHL COLLECTION DIRECTED BY WES ANDERSON

Netflix has teamed up with Wes Anderson to make a series of 4 mini films inspired by Roald Dahl's short stories. As you can see through the trailers and images they look like a Wes Anderson film but on a much smaller scale. It'll be great to find out if any of you who know his work can spot if their are any differences.

You can go to the Tudum website and find out more info.

An incredible line up of characters, some classic Anderson collaborators and some new ones.

A fun watch, both comedically and visually. Let us know what you think!

THE SPHERE: LA: U2 CONCERTS

The Sphere has opened in LA. for those of you who haven't seen it it is a giant sphere concert venue, the entire outside is a screen that shows incredible visuals like a blinking eye and a molton metal effect.

U2 opened the venue with an incredible visual spectacular which you can see by watching the videos. Created by a wide range of artists, Long time collaborator Willie Williams has worked with Brian Eno, Marco Brambilla, Es Devlin, John Gerrard, and the company Industrial Light and Magic who make Star Wars and Marvel films.

Williams put artists together for the incredible visuals saying “No-one ever applauds at an art gallery. That’s one of the greatest things about these shows. The artists involved, and the band, will have instant feedback."

It's definitely worth a look into all the creatives involved with this project they work with all the best musicians and they often shared messages of hope and awareness in their visuals.

Enjoy having a look it will blow your mind what we can do nowadays! Could you begin to create work for these spaces. Everyone starts small and builds up to this. There is a great Abstract doc on Es Devlin that shows just that, from working with projectors and ripping paper to staging Beyonce!

YOUTUBE: NATIONAL MUSEUMS LIVERPOOL: WHAT ARTISTS WEAR

This new series has just appeared on the Liverpool Museums YouTube but it is affiliated with The Walker Art Gallery where we took you Year 1 students at the start of term.

The short videos show and artists talking about different outfits and why they wear them. I have showcased costume to practical ideas. So you can see the breadth of the scope they are covering.

A couple of weeks ago I shared My Own Garms Podcast and so I thought this was a good follow up to show you that people are interested in these things so it could be an idea to develop yourself. Last year I shared unknownvlogs who asks people what they are wearing throughout London initially and now the world. I love that channel too, defo worth a look, also, just to see that most people are really nice.

INSTAGRAM: DISCOVERING ARTISTS IRL

This is a very simple concept. Walk around a city, New York it appears asking people if they make music or not.

When someone says yes, they ask who inspires them, the artist tell you, so you can discover their favorite artists too and then they play the artist's, they discovered work.

Amazingly, it all sounds amazing too. It goes to show there are lots of talent out there it's all about keeping on trying and doing your best.

ARTS BY THE SEA FESTIVAL 2023

In the spirit of some more dreamlike visuals this work Portal has gone on display in Bournemouth. It looks incredible and is part of a wider festival that finishes this weekend. It might look like an AI mock up but that is the real thing.

"PORTAL transports viewers to a place where anything can happen, where unexpected apparitions appear among the well-known landscapes and spaces that we are accustomed to experiencing every day. Delicate in feel yet dramatic in scale, PORTAL contrasts with its environment, all the while framing its backdrop and surrounding. The artwork captures a surreal, breath-taking moment in time, resulting in a dreamlike vision."

The festival has all forms of creativity, so something for everyone.
