Local Leaders Celebrate Landmark New Brisbane Community Pool Electric Heating System
On June 9, 2026, the City of Brisbane, Peninsula Clean Energy, Willdan Engineering Services, and representatives from local, state and federal offices came together to celebrate the first project in California to convert an existing municipal swimming pool’s primary heating system from methane gas to electric air source heat pumps. The Brisbane Community Pool’s aging gas-fired boiler was replaced with three new high-efficiency electric air source pumps, eliminating one of Brisbane’s largest remaining sources of municipal fossil fuel consumption. This innovative upgrade is projected to reduce methane gas use at the facility by roughly 86 percent, which reduces emissions equivalent to removing 42 gasoline-powered cars from the road each year. It will also generate an estimated $15,000 in annual operational savings.

Next Planning Commission Workshop on the Baylands Final EIR, 6/11
The 5/28 workshop with the Planning Commission provided an overview of the 2026 Specific Plan, including key terminology, how to read and understand the Plan, and what changed between the applicant's 2025 submittal and the 2026 staff-recommended version of the Plan. Essentially, the 2026 Draft has been revised to better reflect the City's vision for Baylands development and respond to issues that emerged during the environmental analysis. See the workshop video.
A reminder that the Final Environmental Impact Report (Final EIR) was published with the 2026 Draft Specific Plan on May 14th; both documents are available electronically online at brisbaneca.gov/baylands as well as in hard copy form at City Hall and at the Library.
The 6/11 Planning Commission Workshop will give an overview of the Final EIR and further describe the upcoming public hearing process at both the Planning Commission and City Council.

Local Hazard Mitigation Plan: Comments due 6/15
Another important document available in hardcopy form at the Library is the County's Draft Local Hazard Mitigation (LHMP) Plan. Note: four copies of the draft were printed in total, with one distributed to a regional hub in each area of the County. San Mateo County Libraries identified the Brisbane Library as the North County location.
The LHMP identifies our risks from wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, severe weather, other natural hazards, and outlines actions to reduce damage before disasters happen. The County is seeking input through June 15th from residents, businesses, and community organizations. Tell them where our Annex Draft is strong, what it misses, and what you would add!

Increased Fire Risk Late Wednesday - Saturday
The National Weather Service is predicting a moderate heat risk for the SF Peninsula Wednesday - Saturday, with a Heat Advisory across the eastern side of the county on Thursday. Prolonged exposure to heat can result in heat stroke and heat exhaustion, so please take precautions. There is also an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents, with a Beach Hazards Statement through 5 AM Thursday. Never turn your back to the ocean! And lastly, there may be areas of coastal flooding, however only isolated road closures are expected along the San Francisco Bay.
