Project information

Started by the United Nations in 1991, Older Person's Day, takes place each year on 1st October and works to raise awareness of opportunities and challenges faced by ageing populations, and to mobilise the wider community to address difficulties faced by older people. A major difficulty facing older people today is social isolation, which is why events like this are crucial for our communities.

In celebration, One Vision Housing partnered with the Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre to provide afternoon tea and entertainment to Netherton residents. After announcing the event, spaces filled immediately showing just how much need there is for social isolation events in the area. Additionally, One Vision Housing invited 10 guests from their Retirement Housing Scheme, Orrell Lodge, to attend the event much to their enjoyment.

Outcomes

Around 70 local residents, including 10 One Vision Housing customers from Orrell Lodge, enjoyed a free afternoon of delicious food and lively entertainment provided by the amazing Steve Charles. As a result, £120,166 was generated in social value according to the HACT social value calculator.

Feedback from the Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre was tremendous. Guests were up dancing and singing all afternoon; everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience.

Event attendee, Pauline, said:

Thank you to everyone involved in organising such a lovely afternoon at the Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre today. Great company, great entertainment from Steve Charles. My mum had a lovely day.

Ian Mitchell, Managing Director of Housing, said:

As part of The Sovini Group we believe in creating a better future for the communities we serve. This event is a prime example of how, by partnering with organisations at the centre of our neighbourhoods, we can make real positive differences and change the lives of older people.
