FROM THE Principal’s Desk
Dear Bluejay Family,
In my first year as a Bluejay, I took a great deal of time to assess school needs. Using the foundations laid by previous administrations and needs assessments from our 2021-2022 Cognia Accreditation Review, several themes emerged that allowed us to make some initial strides in the areas of safety, security, and facilities. We will continue that good progress as we begin addressing larger needs.
I am excited to extend the invitation to attend one of our SCS Parent Town Hall Meetings. We will offer 3 meetings in an attempt to accommodate varied schedules. These will be held:
Our agenda will be to share our plans to expand our school cafeteria. Our current cafeteria space is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of our school family. To ensure that we continue to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for our students to enjoy their meals and foster a sense of community, we have been exploring options for expansion.
During these meetings, we will cover the following key points:
- The Need for Expansion: We will present data and insights regarding the current limitations of our cafeteria.
- Proposed Plans: We will share the proposed plans for the expansion to help you understand the changes being considered.
- Status and Funding: We will share the current status of the project and discuss the potential funding sources that we are exploring to ensure the successful realization of this endeavor.
- Parental Involvement: We firmly believe that your input is crucial, and we will discuss ways in which parents can actively contribute to and support this initiative.
Participation offers an excellent opportunity for you to ask questions and provide valuable feedback about this project. Your input is valued and will play a role in shaping the future of our school's facilities.
Grace and Peace,
Erin B. Henry
Principal

ANNOUNCEMENTS
CAR LINE
Parents, please take a minute to watch this brief video on how to use our car line safely. We have included a little humor in the message, but we honestly just want to keep our students safe, our parents citation-free, and our neighbors friendly.
The ONE element we did not film was cell phone usage. We are seeing many drivers in the car line distracted by cell phones. We cannot stress this message enough: IT CAN WAIT! Nothing on your phone is worth a costly ticket or, worse, a potential accident.
MENTOR MONDAY
Junior High students will be allowed to wear His House or house color shirts with uniform bottoms on Monday, September 11th for Mentor Monday Meetings.
QUICK LINKS
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
Bluejay Family,
Our first progress report of the year was released this past Friday, September 8. This will be accessible for grades 2-8 for the first quarter. You can access your child’s progress report by:
- Logging in to parent portal
- Clicking on the grades tap
- Clicking Progress Report (mid-term)
The reports will be set to view through September 22. Please print the reports as you need for your records. Report cards will be accessed the same way.
JUNIOR HIGH MAKE UP POLICY:
As we continue to move into the quarter, please be reminded of the new make up test policy and test taking center in the 2023-2024 handbook.
Grades 6-8:
- The primary option will be to use the make up test center in the Spanish classroom. Testing sessions will be on Monday/Wednesday afternoons from 2:45-3:20 pm and Tuesday/Thursday mornings from 7:20-7:55am. There will be a total of 4 testing opportunities a week. If a student is 10 minutes late to a testing session, they will be denied the opportunity to take the test that day.
- A 2 week makeup timeline for assessments will begin the day students return to school (including if a session was held that morning). After two weeks, the student will only have an opportunity to obtain a maximum of 70% of the assessment grade.
SCS Mass
This week’s Mass is Wednesday at 8:30 and will be hosted by 6th grade boys. We invite family and friends to join us in the church (limited seating), Narthex or PLC. You can also join us online at shbroussard.org/live or the St. Cecilia Facebook page.

Missed today’s kick-off? No worries! 6th-8th graders can still register for Edge and join us next week! Sign up at shbroussard.org/register.
Missing Sacraments?
If anyone in your family is not baptized or maybe didn’t receive First Communion (3rd grade or older) or Confirmation (12th grade or older), we would love to help! Email csavoie@scsbluejays.org to get started.
Encounter Night
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 26. It our first Encounter Night of the new year! This year we will focus on the virtues of faith, hope, and love. Check out all the details on the Sacred Heart Facebook page.
ADVANCEMENT
We are excited to announce that plans are underway for the 8th annual SCS Bluejay Color Run that will take place Thursday, October 5th. This is a great opportunity for your child to get moving and have fun, all while raising money in support of our school. Funds raised will go towards improving the gym sound system. This is an untimed run and everyone will be a winner! All grades will be able to participate.
Dear Bluejay Family,
The short week saw our volleyball teams in action at home. During the week, the football and cross country teams were preparing for their first action on Saturday.
The cross country team competed in the Sargent Memorial Meet at Acadiana Park. Notably, Harper Montz placed 6th overall for the girls and was honored with a commemorative t-shirt. The boys finished 3rd in the league, while the girls were runners up. 16 out of 18 runners had personal records for the day. The girls were led by Harper Montz, Lauren Froehlich, and Heidi Derge. The boys were led by Seth Gallagher, Miles Schoenfeld, and Luke Hogan.
The football teams played in the Jamboree against Cathedral. The 5/6th Grade boys lost, but the 7/8th Grade boys salvaged the day with a win over Cathedral. The younger boys fought hard and did not quit. The older boys took care of the Tigers and are anxious to get into league play.
The 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball girls were crowned Cajun Elite Tournament Champions on Saturday. They look forward to their games against Fatima on Monday. Prior to the 8th Grade game, there will be a patriotic ceremony honoring those that paid the ultimate price on 9/11.

As we approach the beginning of games that coincide with school days, please refer to Mrs. Langlinais’ email from this week regarding absence from school. We do not want to affect our teams’ eligibility.
We would like to remind everyone of our policy for participating in extracurricular activities after school. As stated in the student handbook on page 51, "If a student is absent 3/7 or more of instructional time, he/she may NOT participate in after-school activities that day without special permission from administration." This includes, but is not limited to, team practices or games, club meetings, and special school events.
