Math- Mrs. Brucker
Over the next week or two we will be finishing up our unit on multiplying and dividing integers and rational numbers.
Our next unit will be “Analyze and Use Proportional Relationships”. Students will learn to connect ratios, rates, and unit rates: determine unit rates with ratios of fractions; understand and describe proportional relationships.
As a reminder, students are expected to show all work in their math notebooks when completing a homework assignment. They are required to upload a photo of their work in Google Classroom.
ELA- Mrs. Lucas & Ms. Herr
During the month of October, students will learn about verb tenses and verb moods, as well as common and proper nouns.
Students will begin their suspense unit. They will be tasked to recall prior knowledge of tone and mood, and engage with topics such as foreshadowing, setting, and conventions utilized within the suspense genre.
Students will incorporate the conventions from the suspense unit to write their own suspenseful pieces of literature.
Social Studies- Mr. Jacobs
Students are going to finish up learning about human geography. Topics include political systems and culture.
We will then briefly cover physical geography and how it impacts humans.
By the end of the month, we will be transitioning to Kansas geography and eventually into Kansas history heading into November.
Science- Mr. Stadalman
We are nearing the completion of our first unit on Cells. We have learned about cell theory as well as organelles of the cell and how they work together. The eukaryotic cell is truly a miraculous tiny factory.
We also got out the microscopes to look at all of the various types of cells (plant, animal, bacteria). We studied onions, our own cheeks, anacharis, and pond water. All big hits.
Cell model projects are finishing up. They are looking great and will be on display during parent/teacher conferences. Thank you for sending in supplies!
Next Unit: How cells grow and specialize.
