Keep Older Adults Prepared for Any Disaster Emergency!

Safety Tips to Consider:

  • Have a contact of your support network on their phone

City's Goat Herd Will be Ba-Ack Next Year

The City of Laguna Beach's goat herd has finished munching on vegetation and have been moved out of the City. The goat herds will be ba-ack in about six months! 🐐

The City uses goats to remove dried grass, brush, and chaparral near homes in Laguna Beach to reduce the amount of fuel a potential wildfire can burn. In places where goats cannot go, for instance near sensitive vegetation, hand crews help the goats do their job.

Let Us Know Your Thoughts on the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan!

The City of Laguna Beach is preparing a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). This plan will help create a safer community for residents, businesses, and visitors. The LHMP allows public safety officials and City staff, elected officials, and members of the public to understand the threats from natural and human-caused hazards in our community. The plan will also recommend specific actions to proactively decrease these threats before disasters occur.

The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) Draft is open for Public Comment until September 21, 2023.

LBPD Leads Another Joint Taskforce Operation to Target Speeders & Loud Exhaust

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, officers from the Laguna Beach Police Department led its third multi-agency operation this year to target speed violations and loud and modified vehicle exhaust. This has been a sustained enforcement effort in response to safety and quality of life issues impacting residents throughout Orange County, including coastal communities from San Clemente to Seal Beach.

Sunday’s enforcement included police officers from Newport Beach, Seal Beach, and deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The following results were achieved through this operation:
  • 58 vehicles were stopped for vehicle code violations
  • 17 vehicles were issued citations (which include loud and/or modified exhaust and emissions)
  • 10 vehicles were issued citations for Basic Speed or Exceeding 65 MPH
  • 39 vehicles were given citations for other violations
“Speed and loud exhaust violations continue to compromise the safety and quality of life of our residents. Consequently, we are left with no choice but to take a zero-tolerance approach to enforcement,” said Laguna Beach Police Chief Jeff Calvert. “We appreciate the unprecedented collaboration with our law enforcement partners throughout Orange County and will continue these joint enforcement operations through the end of the year.”

Ariel is Still Looking for a Forever Home! 🐶

Who can resist this sweet pup's eyes?! Ariel is a two-year-old spayed female black and tan Doberman who is still up for adoption at the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. She is quiet and gentle, but also playful and affectionate when she becomes comfortable around others. Ariel is missing a rear leg, so she would work best in a home without a lot of stairs.

The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter adoption procedures are designed to make sure that both the potential family and the animal adopted are in the very best situation possible. The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter is located at 20612 Laguna Canyon Road. For any questions, please call (949) 497-3552.
