Jingi Walla - Welcome!
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung nation. We are grateful for the winding creek - Balun - and the Bangalow Palm trees, that are not just pretty but also a source of food, water and materials for the Arakwal people. We are thankful we can learn whilst we play on this land. We respect and love our Jugan - land. We treat all elders with jarima (pronounced Garima) - respect. We will take action to protect, unite and connect with Country.

stage 2 camp
Stage 2 camp was a hit!
On Thursday 10 August Stage 2, Mrs Whiting, Miss Stelling-Wood, Miss Jameson, Zac and Andrew set off to Camp Goodenough. Our Bangalow students represented our school with pride, receiving many compliments from the Camp Goodenough team. During our camp the students persevered through new challenges and clearly displayed their adventurous way of doing. Our adventurers tackled the giant swing, tested their archery skills and even prusiking up a 10 metre rope. Well done stage two on your amazing effort at camp!

science week
National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. This year, the school theme is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The theme incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence (AI).
K-2 classes investigated how innovation can make farming better. We discovered how farmers are using robots, sensors, satellites, and technology to improve their farms.
This week, students drew and labelled their design ideas for a robot that can make farming better. Students had innovative design ideas. They designed robots that can pick fruit from trees, water and feed plants with fertilizer and plant seeds automatically with sensors. Their designs used sensors and solar panels.
Next week, students will build their design. They have a choice from playdough, Lego, or Duplo.
3-6 classes had to plan, build, test and modify a design for a better paper plane. Students had to decide what their criteria would be for a better paper plane. Will it fly further, fly higher, does a loop-to-loop in the air or spends more time in the air? Innovations in air transport are made by including new materials. In this activity, a straw must be used as the fuselage (aircraft’s main body), which meant students must be innovative with their design.
Students were also limited to using cardboard, paper, straws, sticky tape, paper clips and scissors in their build. Students were adventurous in their learning by trying out innovative ideas. They were reflective as they tested their planes and made modifications to improve them.

BOOK WEEK 2023
We are getting excited for Book Week 2023 which will occur in Week 6. This year's theme is Read, Grow, Inspire and now is a great time for our students to start thinking about what book character they will come as for our annual parade. All students from K-6 are invited to dress up and bring in the book they are from. The parade will be held in our new amphitheatre near the school hall on Thursday 24 August at 9:30am.
Our Library Ministry and helpers are also working on an exciting new art installation for our school library to help celebrate.

On Tuesday 29 August, Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance ‘Sticks & Stones’ for K-6. ‘Sticks & Stones’ is an educational theatre performance that promotes resilience, respect and responsibility. ‘Sticks & Stones’ is part of our student wellbeing curriculum and has been developed by teachers and psychologists. This exciting live theatre experience provides students with practical social and emotional skills, and encourages students to build positive connections at school, at home and online.
Brainstorm Productions is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected theatre in education companies, performing to over 260,000 students every year and endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider. Learn more about Brainstorm Productions by visiting their website.
The cost of the performance is $6.50 per student. This fee has been added to your child’s account – please make payment at your earliest convenience. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please don’t hesitate to contact the school to discuss alternative arrangements. Financial assistance may be made available upon request.

is your child celebrating a birthday?
If you would like to send something for your child to share with their classmates, please only send in purchased 99-100% juice ice blocks, as many of our students have allergies to various substances that could trigger an anaphylactic reaction. It is for this reason that we also ask that students do not share their food with other children. Thanks for your cooperation - the safety of all students is our first priority.

assistance for families
With the rising cost of living, some of our Bangalow families are struggling with everyday expenses. While we do everything we can to ensure that students do not miss out on school activities, the school has limited resources to offer subsidises. We are therefore extremely grateful to the Bangalow Lions Club for supporting our school in this regard.
As well as assisting the school with the provision of support for excursions, uniform, etc, the Bangalow Lions Club has generously donated a number of vouchers for use at Foodworks in Bangalow. These vouchers will be offered to families that have already requested financial assistance from the school, however if you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact us to discuss in confidence.
Many thanks to the Bangalow Lions Club for supporting our school community!

lost property
There is a large amount of lost property in the canteen area. Please have a look for any items your child may have left at school. It is a good idea to label all belongings, that way they can be returned to your child.

visiting our school?
ALL visitors to our school are expected to SIGN IN at our front office on arrival. This is standard practice across all schools, and ensures we can support your safety if there is an emergency.
The best way to sign in is by scanning the QR code on the front window and completing the relevant details. If you don't have a smart phone or mobile reception, we do have an iPad kiosk for you to use. Unfortunately, this device can be somewhat temperamental; if the iPad is not working, one of our office staff will sign you in (they will need your name and phone number).
Please also be aware that ALL parent helpers need to have completed a volunteer declaration form (you only need to do this once while you have children enrolled at our school). Many thanks to everyone who has done this; if you would like to check if you have completed one, just phone our office.
