The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | September 24, 2025

Wow! Saturday's turnout of 95 volunteers for Coastal Cleanup was the largest yet! A total of 460 pounds of garbage was picked up - 131 pounds of recyclables - for a grand total 591 total pounds! Brisbane truly does punch above the belt when it comes to volunteerism. Thank you to Jeff Franco from Parks and Rec, Dolores De La Cruz from Sustainability, and Michele Salmon from OSEC for organizing and helping the volunteers do their thing!

Council Meeting Highlights from 9/18 & 9/22

At their September 18, 2025 meeting, the City Council:

  • Discussed the potential installation of a camera at the Community Park as requested by Councilmember Kern. Staff provided information on the use cases from local municipalities, costs of various camera systems, and best practices. Council directed staff to provide additional information with feedback from the Police Department and to publicize the item prior to placing it on a future Council agenda.
  • Received a request from Councilmember Davis to agendize the review of the Sign Ordinance as it relates to Real Estate Open House signage and a request from Mayor Lentz to agendize the process of Agenda Setting at a future City Council meeting.

During a Special City Council meeting on September 22, 2025, the Council directed staff to develop a "Best Practices/Code of Conduct" document. This discussion was based on a document provided by Councilmember O’Connell at the City Council meeting on May 15, 2025, which addressed Best Practices. The City Council articulated its objectives, emphasizing the creation of a document that serves the best interests of the City. Staff will return to Council with a draft incorporating these goals.

Maziar "Maz" Bozorginia Appointed Public Works Director

The City of Brisbane has announced the appointment of Maziar "Maz" Bozorginia as its new Public Works Director, effective October 20, 2025. Bozorginia will succeed Randy Breault, who has served in the role for the past 24 years.

Bozorginia brings nearly 20 years of municipal engineering and public works leadership experience to Brisbane. He currently serves as Public Works Director/City Engineer for the City of Half Moon Bay, where he is responsible for the divisions of Engineering, Maintenance, Sustainability, and the Wastewater Collection System. His accomplishments there include securing significant grant funding, advancing sustainability initiatives, overseeing major capital improvement projects, and restructuring departmental operations to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

In accepting the position, Bozorginia stated, “It’s a privilege to step into this role with Brisbane. I’m eager to help address important infrastructure and environmental challenges while supporting the City’s long-term resilience. I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated team across the City and with a community that clearly takes pride in its future.”

The City extends its appreciation to Randy for his more than two decades of dedicated service, and welcomes Maz as he assumes this key leadership position.

Volunteer Cleanup Underway on Quarry Rd. Trail

In late August, a Trails Development Subcommittee Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission took place, where Commissioner Renee Commerford stated that the entryway to Quarry Rd. Trail could use some attention. At their September Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, Chair Trudi Davis brought up her colleague's comment and offered her help. When Parks and Recreation Director Noreen Leek confirmed that this area of Quarry Rd. was located in the City's right-of-way, it wasn't long before Renee and Trudi got to work. The following sets of Before & After photos show what they were able to accomplish over a period of a few hours on a Saturday afternoon:

The bench at the base of Quarry Rd. is much more user-friendly now!
The sidewalk approaching the trail, Before and After, where you can see the area around the utility pole has been cleared of overgrown weeds.

They're not done yet, but one can already start to see what a difference their work has already made at the foot of this oft-visited trail in town!

Thank you, Renee and Trudi - we are inspired by your initiative and know others reading this are too, as they consider ways they can pitch in to offer help, for the betterment of their community!
