Urgent Aid overview by the numbers:
"Receiving Urgent Aid funding helped me to get back and forth to class for a little bit until my child support payments started coming in. I want to thank you all for the help that you have given me, being a single mom and trying to do school as well. It helped me a lot and I am very appreciative for it."
- Melanie (2023-24 Urgent Aid Recipient), Cosmetology, Pictou Campus
"With inflation and rental costs it felt impossible for me to continue my education. I pushed through and received Urgent Aid while I looked for a job, which felt near impossible. But I persevered and got the opportunity to work two different jobs while going to school. Urgent Aid provided me with food/gas for two weeks. I was at my breaking point and without that money I might have dropped out and moved back home. I would like to thank you for making my education possible because without you I may not have been graduating in June with my Social Services Diploma. I look forward to paying it forward and helping people in the future."
- Morgan (2023-24 Urgent Aid Recipient), Social Services, Marconi Campus
"The emergency assistance was a lifesaver for me and my three children. Facing car troubles and being short on rent money, this aid allowed me to cover my rent and concentrate on my school work."
- Kristen (2023-24 Urgent Aid Recipient), Medical Office Administration, Truro Campus
"I honestly don’t know what I would have done without this program. That payment helped me and my kids avoid being evicted from our home. For some people that amount of money may not be a big deal, but for us, it was everything. I hope programs like this continue to exist and help people like me. With today’s economy, being able to pay bills and rent is very difficult. Sometimes we’re put in a position that we had never planned for and that is exactly what happened to me. As well it is very difficult to concentrate on school when you are worried about financial issues. NSCC and the faculty were very supportive and were quick to help us right away. My hope is this program can continue to help other people in my position. If it wasn't for the Urgent Aid donors and their continuing support I may not have been able to continue with my studies. Your kindness and support means everything to me. Thank you!"
- Christina (2023-24 Urgent Aid Recipient), Adult Learning Program, Akerley Campus
