Message from the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
Monday morning started with our new assembly with children coming together for a collective message. The Darlinghurst Direction assemblies help us to focus on our actions and responsibilities across the academy. The Direction lists a set of agreed values that we all follow and the first assembly shared the importance of ‘personal values’, ‘Academy and British Values’. The children showed impeccable conduct and transition to and from assembly – showcasing our value of Excellence!
This week children have been putting the British Value of ‘democracy’ in action. Candidates for Head and Vice Prefects showed ‘determination’ as they engaged in the election process. This included public speaking- so they certainly put their confidence to the test.
Mrs Powell has been demonstrating the importance of being an Active Citizen and Effective Contributor. On Wednesday evening she shared her expert knowledge with other schools to support Sustainability and the teaching of Climate Change. She attended an event, ‘Greening Southend’ and shared the approach and actions that are undertaken here at Darlinghurst.
As always, enjoy your family time together.
Mrs Nicholls
In the spotlight
We continue to promote a love of reading and introducing children to new books and recommended reads. An author came to visit Key stage one today sharing a love of reading. Children listened to the stories and find out what it is like to be an author. It was interactive and inspiring. The children were able to purchase the authors book too.
Sport in the Spotlight
On Wednesday children engaged in the Panathlon cricket competition hosted by Active Essex. They loved playing cricket at a real cricket club - the Loughton Cricket Club and were even more delighted to be overall winners holding not only first place but second place! What an achievement and a great start to our sporting events. First competition and winners!
Proud to be me
Harvey, in year 6 has recently moved from Cubs to Scouts and has been awarded the Chief Scout Silver Award. This is the highest award a Cub can earn. To complete it, you need to earn six Activity or Staged Activity Badges of your choice, as well as all seven of the Challenge Awards. The Chief Scout’s Silver Award shows that you’ve given new things a go, played your part, and stuck it out, even when the going got tough. It’s a really big achievement, and we are very proud of Harvey. What an achievement!
