Criw Cymraeg Our cymraeg campus journey

Dyma'r Criw

Recently, Ysgol Maes y Llan became the third school in Wrexham to have achieved the Cymraeg Campus silver award.

We are incredibly proud of our achievements and will be working towards maintaining the bronze and silver standards in 2022 - 23.

We plan to begin our gold journey in September 2023.

Our Journey So Far...

Context:

Cymraeg Campus is a language charter followed by almost all schools in Wales. It is part of the initiative to generate 1 Million Welsh speakers by 2050.

There are three awards up for grabs: Gwobr Efydd (bronze), Gwobr Arian (silver), and Gwobr Aur (gold).

Each of these awards is broken down into ten umbrella targets, each of which are then broken down further into around ten other targets.

The Job of the Criw

The Criw Cymraeg, a council of children who will enhance Welsh at school, are responsible for ensuring that the school is achieving their targets. They create displays to keep children up to date with Welsh news at school and the contribute to newsletters and the school website to advertise what we are doing with Cymraeg Campus.

Towards the end of the year, when the criw feel they have achieved everything they set out to, and that the targets have been met, they invite some VIPs from the Welsh department of Wrexham in to assess everything they have done.

In July 2021, we followed this process and achieved the bronze. One year later in July 2022, we achieved the silver. This was an enormous achievement for our criw.

Going forward

Going forward, maintaining our silver status, we are looking for Welsh speaker, performers, activities and more to help enhance our curriculum at Maes y Llan.
