SCHOOL COUNCIL The September meeting of School Council is set down for next Tuesday, September 9 in the staffroom from 7pm.
WORKING BEE It just wasn’t meant to be with a few weather issues and the unavailability of materials leading to the unfortunate postponement of last Sunday’s working bee. However, we are trying again for Sunday, September 14 at 9am with perfect weather forecast (we can but hope!!). Really hope you can make it, even if for a short period of time.
STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR Our 16 school dancers are primed and ready to go for the matinee and evening performance of the State Schools Spectacular on Saturday, September 13. If you are keen to see a bit of a preview, they will be performing for us at assembly on Monday, September 8. We are very proud of all of our dancers and extremely grateful to Jackie Rielly, ably supported by Renee Davey for all of their expertise and commitment in attending/organising rehearsals and guiding/teaching our students to be the best that they can be! This year’s spectacular is titled On Air — where dreams take flight, friendships shine, and every young voice is heard. The State Schools Spectacular is now in its 30th year and is a breathtaking and heartwarming blend of song, dance, and circus — all staged with spectacular lights, costumes and a 75-piece orchestra. It will also be something that our students will remember for the rest of their lives.
GRADE 6 URBAN CAMP The final week of term sees our Grade 6 cohort heading to the Urban camp in Parkville on Monday, September 15 for a two night, three day camping experience. The Parkville setting will be the base for a range of city experiences with students using the City Circle Tram to visit a range of iconic sites including the MCG (with a meet an Olympian experience a highlight), The National Gallery, Eureka Tower and more. The evening experiences will be back at the camp site and all in all we trust and hope that this year’s camp will be the perfect finale to four years of different but enjoyable camps at Viewbank Primary School.
PARENT OPINION SURVEY By way of reminder, the Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is still open online until Friday 19 September 2025. All families have been invited to participate in this survey which is conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete.
INTENTION TO LEAVE It’s fast approaching that time of the year where we start to plan for the upcoming year and with that in mind we ask that if any families are intending to leave our school community by the end of 2025 because of relocation or other reason, could you please advise us as soon as possible. A phone call to the office, or an email to the school or my email account asap would be most appreciated.
Happy Father’s Day to all of our Dads in the Viewbank Community. I hope you have a great day.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
Family holidays during school terms Schools are incredibly busy places and there are always activities occurring and special events to be considered and planned around if families are considering a holiday during term time. However, there are always important things occurring in the classrooms and it certainly assists teachers’ planning to know if students are to be absent.
If your family is planning a holiday during school time or you know your child is to be absent for several days, please email the class teacher so that they can plan around these events and reschedule tasks. This is particularly important during assessment periods. Thank you.
Ramp Mural Project Just a reminder that the painting of the mural on the Lascelles Ave. ramp will commence tomorrow afternoon. The artist, Hayden Dewar, will be working into Friday evening to complete the preparation work and will work across the weekend. We can’t wait to see this colourful addition develop over the coming weeks.
Zones of Regulation At Viewbank we implement The Zones of Regulation as part of our Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum. The Zones of Regulation help students to name and understand their feelings and the influence these feelings may have on being ready to learn. Students are taught that all feelings are okay and we can learn strategies to help us move from one zone to another. At school, students learn that being in the green zone is the optimal zone for learning. If students are not in the green zone then strategies such as mindful breathing, taking a brain break or completing a timed quiet activity may be required.
We find that using The Zones of Regulation encourages open communication and builds more positive and healthy relationships between students and teachers. It creates a common language across the school and contributes towards a calmer and more mindful learning environment.
The Zones of Regulation can also be implemented successfully at home. You can access more information here if you are interested.
Happy Father’s Day Wishing all our dads a super special day this Sunday. I hope you get spoilt!
Have a great week.
Gill
DANGEROUS DRIVING Unfortunately, we continue to have almost daily reports of dangerous, and illegal driving at drop off and pick up time. It is particularly disappointing to hear how aggressive some drivers have been towards others. There have been some very close calls with students, your children, almost being hit – none of us would ever want this on our conscience if we were the one driving. Issues are particularly prevalent on Nevin Parade and on the corners of Lascelles Avenue and Nevin Parade, as well as Lascelles Avenue and Winston Road. Please see the Viewbank Voice dated 21 August (only 2 weeks ago) for a more detailed explanation https://new.express.adobe.com/webpage/yVw2T7xGkglcD

BOOK PARADE PRIZE DRAW This is to let you know that the book prizes (name in a ‘hat’) for those students who dressed up for our Book Parade have now been distributed. Thank you to the P&F for purchasing books and organising this – we hope that this contributes to a lifelong love of reading!
2026 FOUNDATION MOVEMENT LAND Thank you to the Foundation Team for the excellent organisation and implementation of the 2026 ‘Land’ series of transition events. This final event was supported by Mr Peters and Year 5 students.
FOUNDATION TO YEAR 2 CROSS COUNTRY After needing to postpone last week’s event (due to a potential weather event), we were thrilled to be able to complete this before the end of term. Thank you to Mr Betson for his organisation and running of the event. Thank you also to the spectators and cheer squads who came along to support these budding athletes!
FATHERS DAY STALL Once again, we are extremely grateful to the Parents and Friends Committee, and the Father’s Day sub-group for organising today’s stall. Thank you also to the volunteers who came along and helped out.
Events such as the Mother’s Day Stall, Father’s Day Stall, and School Disco (coming up on Friday 17 October!), require organisers to ensure their smooth running, without our volunteers, these events may not happen. If you would like to help with future organisation of P&F events, we meet approximately twice per term, mostly in the staff room and occasionally online. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 07 October at 7:30pm.
Have a great Father’s Day and weekend,
Patrick
