Happy September! The gardens are full of blooming perennials and we are switching many of our annual display beds to mums this month! We've got lots of great garden events coming onsite this fall! The butterflies are back in action and the bees are busy buzzing on all their favorite flowers. There are vegetables aplenty in the kitchen garden with lots of interesting heirloom varieties and many fruits on the way! The Wilderness Garden provides a great shady spot to enjoy a breeze off the Trent River between your other more formal garden stops in the Latham and Kellenberger Gardens.
Speaking of next month- Tryon Palace will host the September Garden Lecture, Saturday September 16, 2023, “Tough Plants of ENC & Plant Sale Sneak Peek”, featuring Hadley Cheris and Mike Spafford, Tryon Palace Garden Staff. This garden lecture will focus on plants best adapted to face the challenges of Eastern North Carolina with a sneak peek of the plants available at the Tryon Palace Fall Plant Sale. This lecture begins at 10:30 a.m. in Cullman Performance Hall at the North Carolina History Center. Suggested donation $3.
DONT FORGET- FALL PLANT SALE IS OCTOBER 13 &14, 2023 FROM 9AM-5PM EACH DAY! THE GARDENS WILL ALSO BE OPEN FREE ALL WEEKEND.
If you’re interested in a long term “behind the scenes” venture, we are looking for volunteers for raking, mulching, weeding, fence and trellis repair and MORE!
