Professional Development

In addition to an in-person audience, his briefing was livestreamed state-wide to all N.D. National Guard full time members.

This month's professional development featured the training topic "The role of public affairs and how to handle social media". The class explained what public affairs can do for you and your command. It also laid out the good and the bad of social media for units and military members.

Sergeants Major Academy Grads

Three members of the North Dakota National Guard recently graduated from the Sergeants Major Academy in Ft. Bliss, Texas March 8.

Left, U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Shannon Kliniske, Headquarters Support Company, 141st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Sgt. Maj. Jennifer Freeman, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery and 1st Sgt. Robert Roehrich, 188th Engineer Company, Vertical, all graduated from the Sergeants Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas, March 8.

They completed 2 phases of distance learning in 18 months and a final 2-week resident phase in Ft. Bliss, Texas.

3662nd Support Maintenance Company (SMC) Annual Training

Snowshoe Ruck March

Led by Sgt. 1st Class David Merkley, 1st Training Battalion, 164th Regiment Regional Training Institute, they confronted the challenges of winter weather with determination over the weekend. This winter training prepared Soldiers for combat operations in Arctic conditions; it included classroom instruction and outdoor exercises. The highlight was a ruck march at Camp Grafton, followed by a warm hot chocolate bar to counteract the chill.

Recognition

Nevin Huizenga, Raymond J. Bohn armory maintenance worker, took direct action within the complex and brought forward concerns to fix issues, which could have potentially caused injuries to his supervisor Roy Peterson, RJB Director, for his opinion on the topic. Peterson then brought the situation to Lt. Col. Kristopher Elijah, native pay plan commander. This all resulted in measures being taken to prevent serious injuries to any employees.

The VA is hosting a PACT ACT Town Hall to cover expansions of Veteran health care, toxins and other hazards during military service.

ESGR Patriot Employer Awards

The Patriot Award was developed by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and honors civilian employers who provide outstanding patriotic support to employees serving in the guard or reserve.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
