I hope everyone had a lovely half‑term break. The children have settled back into school brilliantly and are already enjoying our Welsh Week celebrations. This half term is a busy but short one, with just four weeks until the Easter holidays.

Welsh Week
Our in‑school Eisteddfod competitions are well underway, with pupils already taking part in handwriting, art, and dancing activities. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity. A gentle reminder about our at-home competitions—we would love to see as many entries as possible:
Home Competitions
Baking Competition Create and decorate a cake based on the theme “Wonderful Wales.” Art Competition Produce a piece of artwork representing Wales. Any medium may be used. Comic Writing Competition Create original Welsh characters and turn them into a comic strip. A template will be provided by school. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday 3rd March at 3:15pm to allow time for judging. Prizes Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in each competition. An informal opportunity to meet with Mr Williams to chat, share ideas, or raise any concerns. All welcome.
Thursday 5th March – World Book Day
Children are invited to come to school in:
- comfy clothes
- pyjamas
- or their own clothes
This year, children will not be dressing up as book characters. A range of reading activities will take place throughout the day.

Parents’ Evening – Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th March
Parents’ Evening appointments will last up to 10 minutes and provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and future targets. Please complete the online form to select your preferred time by Tuesday 4th March. If you cannot attend on these dates, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange an alternative appointment. Please note: Parents’ Evening for Dosbarth Pioneers (Nursery, Reception & Year 1) will be rearranged as Mrs Tennant is currently absent. Forms to complete:

Whole School Photograph – Wednesday 11th March
Instead of our usual class photographs, we will be taking a whole school photograph to celebrate Minera School’s 175th anniversary. Please ensure all children are in full school uniform.Photographs will be available to purchase through Tempest.
175th Anniversary Celebrations
Minera School is 175 years old this year. The Anniversary Committee met on Monday 23rd February, and here are the key outcomes:
- Celebrations will be held 15th–19th June.
- An Open Day will take place on 18th June.
- Children will enjoy a Victorian Party Day on 19th June.
- A new anniversary school badge has been designed.
- A special anniversary T‑shirt and a commemorative tea towel will be available to purchase.
- A new time capsule will be buried.
A time capsule was previously buried in 2001 for the school’s 150th anniversary. If anyone knows its location on the school grounds, we would be grateful for this information. Next Anniversary Committee Meeting: Wednesday 18th March at 3:00pm – everyone welcome.
Parking Reminder
Please do not park or drop pupils off on the zig‑zag lines outside school. These markings are there to keep our children safe. Thank you for your cooperation.
Non‑Uniform Day – Friday 20th March
We will be holding a dress‑down day on Friday 20th March. Children may come to school in non‑uniform in exchange for prizes for our Easter Bingo event.
Easter Bingo – Thursday 26th March
Join us for our Easter Bingo event on Thursday 26th March. More information will follow closer to the date.
Easter Service – Friday 27th March
Our Easter Service will take place at St Mary’s Church on Friday 27th March at 10:00am. We look forward to welcoming families to this special end‑of‑term celebration.
Easter Holidays
School closes for Easter holidays on Friday 27th March and we-open on Tuesday 14th April. Monday 13th April is a Staff Training Day
School Closure – Thursday 7th May
The school will be closed on Thursday 7th May as our building will be used as a polling station for the Senedd Elections. On this day, online learning will be provided for all pupils.
