Dear Parents and Carers,
I cannot believe that we are soon going to be in the final half term of this year! The weeks and months have flown by and we have had a great year so far! There is a lot going on over the next half term so check the dates list and make sure you haven't missed anything.
Below is a collection of news and information from school. I hope that everyone has a restful and happy half term break. Don't forget that Monday 3rd June is a training day and therefore school is closed to children. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday 4th June.
Best wishes
Helen McKenna, Headteacher
Wear Wellies Day
On Friday 7th June, the Gosforth Schools’ Trust has decided to support the charity ‘Winston’s Wish.’ Winston’s Wish is a charity that was originally founded to help children who had been bereaved of a parent or sibling. As the charity has grown over the past 30 years, it has gone on to help support children and those working with children who are dealing with all kinds of bereavement and grief.
Winston’s Wish started a fundraising day called ‘Wear Wellies.’ Why Wellies? Children who experience grief often jump from one emotion to a complete opposite one as a way of coping with their grief. This can be described as puddle jumping and this was the inspiration behind wearing wellies to raise money. We have attached the Winston’s Wish flier for more information.
As a Trust, we are asking for all staff and children to come to school wearing wellies / crocs (or an alternative type of footwear) in exchange for a £1 donation for the charity. Please make your donations via ParentMail where a payment item has been set up for you.
On the day we will talk to children in an age-appropriate way about the charity and its work so that the children understand how their donation and wearing wellies has helped. This day fits in really well with our Summer of Kindness and the Kindness Ambassadors will be talking about it in an assembly during the same week. Mrs Walker is an ambassador for the charity and we are really excited and grateful that she has organised this event for us!
Thank you for your support.
Learning About Mini Beasts
Our Reception Children have been learning all about mini beasts and have made two videos to showcase their new knowledge. You can view these on our website via the link below. They are well worth a watch and you will be amazed!
Well done to everyone in Reception!
The 2024 Children's Cancer Run
We had the best ever turn out for the Run on Sunday morning last weekend. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces coming over the finish line. We are really proud of everyone who took part in either the 1 mile, 3 mile or even 5 mile run!
So far, we have raised £3529 for the charity. Well one, everyone - together we really can make a difference!
Here is a gallery with some of our pictures from the day. We have more photos displayed in school and the children are enjoying trying to find themselves. We are sorry if we missed you, it was very busy and we tried our best to get a picture of everyone from Havannah who was there. There is also a gallery on the official website were lots of our runners are featured, link below.
Y4 MTC
The children in Year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables Check during the first and second week back after the half term break. The Year 4 children have been working very hard on learning their multiplication tables throughout the year. If they wanted some extra challenges during their week off then they could complete Soundcheck on Times Tables Rockstars or Maths Frame (link below) which are very similar to the actual multiplication check. The workshop Powerpoint that Miss Campbell and Miss Armstrong delivered can be found on our school website under Curriculum/Maths. Good luck Year 4s!
KS1 White Rose at Home
For targeted fast maths practice at home, Key Stage One Parents and Carers can download the White Rose Maths – 1 minute maths app - it is a free app which helps children to consolidate their learning from school.
