ABOUT OPEN GOV WEEK

Start celebrating OGP's 15th anniversary during Open Gov Week!

Open Gov Week is a global initiative led by the Open Government Partnership (OGP) that brings together governments, civil society, and citizens to celebrate openness, transparency, and collaboration in public life. It’s a week where governments open their doors, online and offline, to share, listen, and collaborate with citizens. This year is especially significant. Open Gov Week also marks the 15th anniversary of OGP, celebrating a decade and a half of turning open government from a bold idea into a global movement. Whether you are hosting an event, launching a reform, or joining the conversation online, your voice helps demonstrate the power of open government to build more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous societies.

KEY MESSAGES: OGP's 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Use these messages to guide your content. Adapt them to your local context and audience.

  • Over 15 years, open government has moved from an idea to a global movement: the Open Government Partnership now brings together 70+ countries and 150+ local governments with civil society to drive more open, accountable governance.
  • OGP’s core strength is co-creation: governments and civil society design and implement reforms together, supported by independent monitoring and a global peer-learning network that helps spread proven solutions.
  • In many countries, open government is now embedded in practice through permanent dialogue spaces, giving citizens more opportunities to shape policies and improving trust and responsiveness in public institutions.
  • Looking ahead, the focus is on scaling impact. Moving from individual commitments to systemic change, with priorities like digital governance, civic space protection, and inclusive growth, backed by stronger implementation and cross-border collaboration.

HOST AN EVENT

Bring together citizens, government, and civil society to share ideas, listen, and collaborate.

Organize an event for Open Gov Week to build more open, prosperous, resilient communities. Choose a format that fits your audience. This could be an in-person event, a webinar, an online hackathon, a public debate, a consultation, or the launch of a report or reform. Every event makes a difference. By taking part, you help show how open government can build more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous societies. Plan and submit your event to the Open Gov Week website: www.opengovweek.org/submit-an-event. Provide as much detail as possible about the activity you’re planning to organize and share with local partners and others to secure a broad audience.

Promote your event on social media using #OpenGovWeek with our social media assets or editable templates.

When planning your OGW activities, consider:

  • Using publicly accessible online platforms to include more groups in your community
  • Inviting underrepresented groups including women’s organizations, youth networks, or historically excluded communities to participate in a discussion
  • Ensuring events are gender balanced, and that all are giving meaningful opportunities to speak
  • Inviting a multitude of sectors (government, civil society, the private sector, academia) to have rich conversations
  • Including government institutions from different branches of government
  • Partnering with other organizations or government institutions to bring more participants
