Re-building the Egyptian Pyramids
In Topic Prep 2 have had great fun investigating the pyramids of Egypt and enjoyed using construction toys to make model pyramids.
Prep 4 lava lamp fun
Prep 4 have been enjoying their science lessons this term - as part of their focus on measuring they spent some time making their own lava lamps - there was great excitement as they watched the bubbles rise and fall!
Whizz Pop Bang Science Club
Prep 2 have had a blast in their Science club these past few weeks. Last week they learnt the science behind a ‘magic’ trick and mastered holding a cup of water on top of a playing card with no hands! They discovered that this trick works because the air pushing up from underneath the paper is strong enough to overcome the weight of the water pushing down on the card and the air pressure pushing up on the card means that the card will stay on the glass and the water will not spill out! This week the children had fun making a stronger bubble mix; rather than the traditional washing up liquid and water, they added sugar to make the walls of the bubbles thicker. They had great fun blowing huge bubbles in their hands and now know the recipe to try at home.
Reception have settled in beautifully
Our wonderful Reception children have had a fantastic start to school and have all settled in beautifully into their new classrooms. Below is a little sneak peek of life in Reception this week.
Boarder of the Week
Our boarder of the week this week is…….. Amya!
Amya is a new Prep 3 full boarder. She has adapted so quickly to school life at Hatherop, taking every new experience in her stride. She is already a popular member of the boarding team, probably because of her sparky and positive mentality to each and every aspect of boarding. Well done, Amya, you are a thoroughly deserving winner of our first boarder of the week this year!
