We believe that every cat—whether they are already lounging in a loving forever home or waiting patiently at a rescue center for their second chance—deserves a safe place to feel the sun on their fur and the breeze in their whiskers. Giving back to the community and supporting the incredible work of local animal rescues is at the very heart of our company ethos. Recently, we had the absolute privilege of taking our tools, our expertise, and our love for cats on the road to support an amazing cause. BUILDING SAFE HAVENS: OUR LATEST CHARITY PROJECT AT FUR AND FEATHERS ANIMAL SANCTUARY
Fur and Feathers animal sanctuary
Established in 2012, Fur and Feathers is a registered charity and non-destruct rescue based in South Birmingham. Their dedicated team works tirelessly to nurture and rehabilitate every animal that comes into their care, with the ultimate goal of finding them the perfect, safe indoor home.
What truly drew us to Fur and Feathers is their unwavering commitment to feline welfare. They operate a strict non-judgemental policy—never discriminating against an animal based on age, appearance, illness, or history, and firmly believing that every cat has the right to happiness. Recently, the sanctuary faced a massive hurdle when they unexpectedly lost the land they operated from, making them entirely reliant on a temporary base, community donations, and the sheer dedication of their volunteers. Because of their deep love for the cats they rescue, Fur and Feathers has a "indoor-only" rehoming policy to keep their vulnerable rescues safe from the dangers of the outside world. This is exactly where Purrrfect Perimeters stepped in. We knew that with our custom catios and cat fencing, we could help provide these indoor rescue cats with a taste of the outdoors—sunshine, fresh air, and enrichment—without ever compromising their safety.
The beauty of our partnership with Fur and Feathers is how it connects us with incredible, cat-loving people in the community. When Lisa from the sanctuary gave us a heads-up that a lovely lady named Mel would be reaching out, we were ready to help.
The best part of getting Mel and Gibbie sorted for the spring? The charity tie-in. Because Mel came to us through our rescue partners, we were thrilled to apply our special FURFEATHERS discount code to her project. Even better, as part of our ongoing commitment to animal welfare, 5% of all profits from this job will be donated directly back to Fur and Feathers Animal Sanctuary at the end of the year. It’s our way of ensuring that while we are keeping owned cats safe in their gardens, we are also helping fund the care, rehabilitation, and rehoming of the rescue cats who are still waiting for a garden of their own.
The Problem
Mel had a beautiful bungalow with a stunning summer garden. But there was trouble in paradise: a rather persistent (and robust!) neighbourhood cat was causing a major disturbance for Mel's own feline family, including her resident outdoor cat, Gibbie. Mel needed a way to keep her garden secure, keep the unwanted visitor out, and give her cats their territory back.
But as with any bespoke project, it wasn't just a simple matter of throwing up some mesh. We had some unique hurdles to navigate.
The Solution
After reviewing Mel's photos and discussing her priorities, Mike and Tyra put together a custom action plan. Mel opted to go all-in with a full garden fencing system to maximize the usable space and preserve her beautiful views.
Here’s how we tackled the project:
- Freestanding Innovation: To respect the "no-touch" rule on the right-hand side, we designed a system that bypassed the neighbour's fence entirely, ensuring security without causing any neighborhood friction.
- Custom Shed Blocking: We meticulously crafted custom blocking behind the sheds. This successfully kept the neighbourhood "fat cat" from squeezing through, while leaving a specially designed access point so Mel could still easily maintain her conifer trees.
- Boundary Compliance: We carefully engineered the perimeter; creating a secure line that safely integrated with her taller 9-foot structures without breaking any planning rules.
Shed Blocking
Secure, accessible, and seamless. This custom-built gateway blocks the gap behind the sheds to keep the perimeter safe, while blending naturally with the environment and allowing full access for maintenance.

Freestanding
Security Without Sacrifice: Mel loved her garden’s natural feel, so we worked carefully to maintain its beauty. Our freestanding supports are so slim they virtually disappear into the greenery. By avoiding the removal of established bushes and shrubbery, we ensured the garden felt like a sanctuary for both the cats and their humans from day one.

At the end of the day, our work is all about the residents. While the entire garden is now a secure haven, this project was specifically designed for Gibbie—giving him his own safe outdoor territory to explore without the stress of neighborhood "visitors." Of course, Lenny and Peggy are also enjoying the new peace of mind! Whether it’s Gibbie lounging belly-up in the fresh grass or the others catching the afternoon sun, seeing them all relaxed in their own private sanctuary is exactly why we do what we do. No more "uninvited guests" and no more worries—just happy cats living their best lives!

I originally thought i wouldn't be able to keep Gibbie safe & keep the view & access to my garden; Luckily, I was wrong. I shared my thoughts & the team gave me options & on the initial day we discussed trees & and access point i realised I needed. A month in & Gibbie has settled & no visitors!
