FROM THE Principal’s Desk

Dear Bluejay Family,

My heart is full after a busy week that ended with a 114th-birthday celebration for our beloved St. Cecilia School. Former Bluejays of all ages were greeted by current students who volunteered as tour guides. We heard all evening how impressed they were with our students' confidence, communication skills, reverence, and hospitality.

Earlier in the week we held the first of three parent town hall opportunities to learn about preliminary plans to expand our school cafeteria. Our current cafeteria space is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of our growing school family. As a reminder, the next two dates are:

  • Monday, September 18, 2023, from 12:00-12:45 PM, in the Memorial Library
  • Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 6:00-6:45 PM, in the SCS Cafeteria

As we build the future together, let us continue to prayerfully discern the Lord's plan for fulfilling the mission of SCS. Her future is certainly bright!

Grace and Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely; In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CAR LINE

Parents, please take a minute to watch this brief video on how to use our car line safely. We have included a little humor in the message, but we honestly just want to keep our students safe, our parents citation-free, and our neighbors friendly.

The ONE element we did not film was cell phone usage. We are seeing many drivers in the car line distracted by cell phones. We cannot stress this message enough: IT CAN WAIT! Nothing on your phone is worth a costly ticket or, worse, a potential accident.

QUICK LINKS

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

As we celebrated our sweet school’s 114th birthday this week, our students experienced and learned about her history through various discussions and activities. Our 2nd graders had walking field trips to learn about historic sites along Main Street such as the Valsin House along with historic facts about our school. Our Pre-K students took a tour through our Memorial (Old) Library where we now have precious school artifacts and memorabilia on display. Our students were so surprised and interested to learn about the sad event in which the gym building burned down in PE with Mrs. Capritto. We are so thankful to our teachers for continuing to share our deeply rooted history and traditions with our students within their curriculum throughout this week.

Progress Report Reminders:

The reports will be set to view through September 22. You can access your child’s progress report by:

Dear Bluejay Family,

It was a very exciting week to be a Bluejay! Prior to the 8th Grade Volleyball game on Monday, September 11th, Isabella Huval and Isabella Prince, escorted by members of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 3362, led everyone present in a honor memorial to the victims of the attacks on 9/11. Special thanks to Faithful Navigator Aubrey Milligan, Sir Knights, Mike Serio, John Guidry, Pat Romero, Glenn Lambert for representing the patriotic degree and displaying patriotic reverence to such a memorable day. Following the ceremony, Tuesday was perhaps one of the most exciting nights of volleyball in recent memory. Our Bluejays took on their cross town rival in the Fatima Warriors. The Bluejays were not a gracious host and took 3 of the 4 games played. All of our teams are showing early season prowess. Our SCS U5 Soccer Team as well as our Cross Country team lost the game to Mother Nature on Wednesday and were forced to cancel their respective events. We can not wait to see our future Bluejay stars representing us on the soccer field. They take to the field on Saturday. Football had a bye week to get ready to begin their season healthy.

As we approach the beginning of games that coincide with school days, please refer to Mrs. Langlinais’ email from this week regarding absence from school. We do not want to affect our teams’ eligibility.

We would like to remind everyone of our policy for participating in extracurricular activities after school. As stated in the student handbook on page 51, "If a student is absent 3/7 or more of instructional time, he/she may NOT participate in after-school activities that day without special permission from administration." This includes, but is not limited to, team practices or games, club meetings, and special school events.

ATHLETIC PHYSICAL - REQUIRED FOR ALL ATHLETES
