ALL THE KINGS MEN
Michael Conrad
Set in the phrygian mode, this chart has an angry vibe, and is great if you have a tenor player who needs to let off some steam. There are solos for piano and trombone as well, and exciting high-energy moments for the whole ensemble.

J & B
Oliver Nelson/arr. Bob Curnow
This great Oliver Nelson tune from the early '60s was originally recorded by a small group, but here it's been arranged for big band in a very hip way! Set in an easy swing shuffle feel, this chart has a bluesy feel while providing a nice, unexpected variation to the standard blues changes. There's improvised solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this professional version, Oliver Nelson's solo has been transcribed and set as a trumpet soli. Very cool and fun to play! You'll really enjoy J B!
