Construction Association of Nova Scotia Awards

CANSTech Construction Innovation Scholarship recipient:

James, Architectural Engineering Technician, Ivany Campus

"As a mature student I have more financial responsibilities and obligations to take care of, such as my family and general living expenses which are of course, in addition to the program tuition. Receiving this award will greatly help reduce the stress from going back to school and help me focus on what’s important – which is reaching the top of my class and finding a great employment opportunity after graduating from the Architectural Engineering Technician program. I have found that I can excel in anything I put my mind to. I have a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from Dalhousie and I want to add to my existing skills as an architectural engineering technician to really make myself an asset in the building industry. I can’t wait to prove how much I’m worth the investment."

"Before attending NSCC, I had been working in the animation industry for roughly 7 years. Over the course of the pandemic, job security proved to be very unstable. I decided to upgrade my education and go back to school and change career paths. I already possess a degree from Dalhousie in Urban Planning (Honors in Urban Design Studies) and I always found myself passionate about architecture and structures built in the environment. This led to my decision to expand on my knowledge of urban planning and add to my skills by taking the Architectural Engineering Technician program at NSCC.

I would like to thank CANS for this award. I truly appreciate the trust you’ve put in me by selecting me for the CANSTech Construction Innovation Scholarship. I had an amazing first year in the Architectural Engineering program, reaching top of my class in all courses, and am excited to do it all again during my last year of studies. I hope that one day, once I’m out in the workforce, I’ll have the opportunity to work alongside some of the great people and members of CANS."

2023 CANS 160th Entrance Award recipients:

Missy, Carpentry, Cumberland Campus

“I chose to enter the Carpentry program to gain skills for work and home. I plan to teach my boys the skills that I learn as well. My goal is to become a Red Seal Carpenter and eventually start my own business providing trades services to Cumberland County. The award will help tremendously, prices of living have increased and we do struggle financially as a family. This will free up finances a bit while still providing for my family and attending school. This award will relieve stress while I continue to pursue my goals. Thank you so much for this award, it is very much appreciated.”

Monecko, Carpentry, Ivany Campus

"Receiving this award will undoubtedly have a significant and positive impact on my education at NSCC. As a student, I am well aware of the financial challenges that often accompany pursuing higher education. The fact that this award will specifically contribute to covering the costs of tuition, school supplies, and other essential expenses is incredibly reassuring. It not only alleviates the financial burden that can sometimes overshadow the joy of learning but also empowers me to fully engage in my studies and make the most out of my educational experience."

Trayner, Electrical Construction and Industrial, Ivany Campus

“This award will support my education at NSCC a great deal. It will let me focus on my classes, my school work and projects instead of worrying about fitting in as many work hours as possible. It will help me to pay for books, food, transportation, etc.. It will also help me to be able to study without worrying about paying for all of my education and/or finishing school with lots of debt. This support will relieve alot of stress and will be a great help. I would like to sincerely thank the Construction Association of Nova Scotia for this generous award. The Construction Association and the building supply industry have both been a big part of my family for generations. My Grandfather, Father and Uncle have all worked in the building supply industry within Nova Scotia for over 75 years combined I have seen how this industry can provide rewarding careers and valuable opportunities. I also feel a strong connection to the province of Nova Scotia and look forward to working here at home. Thank you again for this support in achieving my goals.”
