Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 28th February 2025

Brilliant Benchball!

We're so proud of our Year 4 bench ball winners! Miss Oldridge said they showed excellent sportsmanship and were a pleasure to take.

Royally Proud!

We were so excited to see the pictures from Peyton's trip to the BBC 500 Words competition final at Buckingham Palace. She even got to speak to Queen Camilla, as you can see below. The winners of the 2024/25 competition will be revealed on a special 500 Words with The One Show programme, on BBC One on World Book Day, Thursday 6 March at 7pm.

World Book Day - Thurs 6th March

Next week we will be celebrating World Book Day in school. Pupils are invited to come into school in non-uniform to celebrate this year’s school theme of ‘Factual Vs. Fairy Tale’. So, this means pupils can EITHER dress up as a character from a factual book or a fairy tale, OR come into school in certain colours - dark colours (to represent Factual) or bright colours (to represent the Fairy Tale category).

Pupils are also invited to take part in the ‘Book In A Box’ competition. This is where pupils can use their creativity to craft a representation of their favourite book, whatever the genre – within a shoebox.

During the day itself, there will be lots of activities for everyone to enjoy, including a World Book Day quiz.

Click here for a reminder of the full details from the School Council (originally sent out before half term break).

Please note that Goole Library are operating a World Book Day 'costume swap' scheme as a way to help parents, where you can donate a costume and choose a new one. So, if you have any old costumes that your child has grown out of, this might be a good way of getting something for this year. Thank you to B&Q

We are very grateful to B&Q for donating several large bags of compost to school, which the children will be able to use during 'Plant It' week after Easter. Thank you also to Miss Bradley for going to the pick them up!

If anyone has any spare plant pots that could also be used by the children, donations would be welcome. Thank you!

Sensory Room Opening

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance data for the last week before half term

Please remember that absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
