Message from the Headteacher
As we reflect on another successful term, I am reminded of the immense value of our enrichment activities, which play such a vital role in our students' school experience and are described in the following pages. These activities not only contribute to our students' enjoyment of school but also help build character, support their academic learning, and foster friendships that will last a lifetime. The memories created through these experiences are also an integral part of their growth.
In addition to these wonderful extracurricular opportunities, our students have continued to thrive in their lessons, making impressive progress across a wide range of subjects. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students, many of whom were recognised for their hard work and dedication during our end-of-term achievement assemblies. Their success is a testament to their commitment and resilience. We look forward to celebrating even more milestones in the terms ahead.
Wishing you all a restful break.
Mr Whittle
Spanish Exchange to Tenerife 2025
A mix of year 9 and 10 students have reunited with their Spanish exchange partners in Tenerife after they paid us a visit last December. Our students have enjoyed learning how to cook Mojo Picón, visiting the Teide Volcano, where they saw whales and dolphins in the ocean, as well as spending a day in a Spanish school. Most importantly, they have spent a week fully immersed in the Spanish culture. On the weekend, during their time with the Spanish families, our students explored the island and tasted some great traditional dishes from the Canary Islands. We are very proud of all of them for making the most of this enriching opportunity and stepping outside of their comfort zone!
Visual Arts
In Visual Arts we have been as busy as ever with various trips to galleries and museums to support our young artists with their coursework and developing exam practice.

READING WEEK 2025
The whole school celebrated Reading Week and World Book Day with a mix of fun events, competitions and a Get Caught Reading raffle.
Assemblies, of course, had a reading theme. Our new 16 by 16 Reading Competition was launched to encourage our KS4 students to read sixteen titles from a wide range of more challenging literature, as preparation for the demands of the GCSE syllabus.
Our READ WELLbeing Inter-house Reading Competition also got underway. This is a whole-school reading initiative to promote the benefits of reading for pleasure and to encourage diversity in reading choices. By posting reviews on the Firefly page, students can earn points for themselves and for their house. There are double points if they review a story from our Lit in Colour selection. This runs until July, when the Celebrating Reading Cup will be awarded to the winning house and prizes will be given for particularly thoughtful reviews.
At the Library’s World Book Day party, students had fun competing for a prize by deciphering cryptic literary clues, working out the sneaky Undercover Quiz questions and recommending books "that mean the world to me".
Our love of reading goes on, of course, with the Lit in Colour Book Club, the Carnegie Book Awards Reading Group, the Y7 Reading Race and much more.

Music
We are also almost at the end of this year's Music Festival which kicked off with our amazing student led group ‘A Capella’ representing LPGS at the BYMT Schools' Prom at the Fairfield Halls. Mariela A in Year 12 writes about preparing her group for the event…
In preparation for BYMT Prom, A Capella rehearsed every Wednesday during lunchtimes from January. The decision to try and perform “One Day More”, from Les Miserables, without any accompaniment and in three-part harmony may have been viewed as ambitious by some. However I had the pleasure of working with 10 other extremely talented and determined vocalists who were ready to work hard to pull it off. Furthermore, they were all willing to give up their time and attend extra rehearsals in the lead up to the event at the Fairfield Halls. We learnt the piece section by section as a group and gave extra attention to the key changes and the transitions between sections in order to make sure the piece flowed smoothly when we sang. I also worked with the soloists during rehearsals, however they all took the time to practise at home on their own too, allowing for such a high level performance.

A Capella:
Mariela A (Year 12), Evie A (Year 12), Maisie V (Year 12), Ruby H (Year 12), Kayla S (Year 12), Maia F (Year 11), Olivia J (Year 11), Rosa D (Year 9), Tereza N (Year 12), Clara L-J (Year 12), Megan S (Year 12)
On Tuesday & Thursday of the same week, and MAT Orchestra opened both LPSB Gala concerts with two Tchaikovsky pieces and an Abba medley.
On the Wednesday between the two MAT concerts, six of our students, who were successful at audition, performed in the Impact Trust's ‘Evening at the Piano’. This event includes all primary and secondary schools within the trust and is lovely because often those that have performed before from Years 3-6, return once they have started secondary school. The following students from LPGS performed:
Georgie C (Year 9), Amelia M (Year 7), Dinali F (Year 7), Avy K (Year 10), Chloe L (Year 8)
This term's Year 7 music scheme students performed so well in their showcase to parents this week; in fact they got through more pieces than any group ever has before. We concluded this year's festival with our Spring Cabaret, which included some of the coursework recital pieces that Year 11 students have worked so hard on this term.
In other news, we have just managed to secure BYMT’s first ever DJ teacher so lessons will be starting here at Langley after Easter. If your young person is interested or knows of anyone who would be, please urge them to come and get an application form from the Music Office.
You might also have spotted in the weekly parent newsletter that our application to be Lead Music school in Bromley was successful so we will be working even more with BYMT next year along with fellow Impact Trust secondary, Hayes School.
And finally, congratulations to the following students who have passed their flute exam this term:
Daisy R Grade 3 Merit - Kayla O Grade 3 Pass

Science
On 27th March a group of aspiring vets, doctors and dentists from LPGS joined Year 12 students from other Trust secondary schools to visit Selwyn College, Cambridge. We enjoyed a tour of the college in the beautiful sunshine and learnt more about the admissions process and life as a student at Cambridge, from student ambassadors currently studying at Selwyn. The highlight of the day was the chance to use the cutting edge Anatomage Table for virtual dissection. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch in Hall.
Ski Trip
During the February half term break, a group of our adventurous students embarked on an unforgettable ski trip to the town of Flirsch, which was only a twenty minute bus ride to the main resort of St Anton. The journey commenced with an early meet-up at school, followed by a flight from Gatwick to Zurich, and a coach ride to our hotel.
The first day on the slopes was met with enthusiasm and incredible progress. Advanced groups wasted no time, tackling the challenging terrains straight up the mountain, covering at least seven different lifts in two hours. By day three, all beginner groups were up in the mountains tackling chair lifts (not to mention the student who went round a chairlift twice) and gondolas. A particular highlight was when the advanced groups managed to ski into the next valley and across the valley up to Rendlbahn, with stunning scenery and views across the Tyrol region of Austria. The glorious weather conditions throughout the week made St Anton even more picturesque.
On the final day, the progression made by all skiers was evident with parallel turns, one leg skiing, and jumps to conclude the week's skiing. A special mention to Poppy W and Xzara V who provided everyone at lunchtime with songs, dances and one particularly musical themed extravaganza where Xzara took on the role of Elphaba on the slopes. Not to mention, we also had a jam-packed après-ski activity programme with a pizza evening, bowling, curling and ice skating.
Our students not only displayed their skiing ability, but also exceptional behaviour throughout the trip. Their conduct was a true testament to the values of our school, their families and a reflection of their own characters. The flight attendants on the way home commented on how polite the students were as they disembarked the plane. The instructors were also very impressed with our students' enthusiasm which led to the instructors being involved in lots of TikTok dances. Students were also extremely supportive of each other, offering moments of encouragement and praise to keep morale high even when the skiing might have been tougher than expected. It was fantastic to see the camaraderie between all students as they made new friends from outside their own year groups.
The trip was full of amazing memories and unforgettable experiences. I would like to express my thanks to the team of staff who accompanied the trip and gave up their half term. Staff provided support on and off the slopes to all students, no matter the time or day. Without these staff members, the trip would not have been as successful:
Mrs Hayden for her Instagram Reels, giving parents an insight into what we were getting up to.
Ms Bush for her expertise, advice and support in ensuring that this trip went as smoothly as possible.
Ms Day for your constant enthusiasm, love of the mountains and support to our students.
Ms Harris for your flexibility in supporting students and contributing to boot room efficiency.
Mr Stewart for being the resident slope DJ and contributing to boot room efficiency.
Ms Azra for your determination in learning to ski and supporting students on and off the slopes.
Finally, a thank you to parents for entrusting us with your children. We hope that you have heard all about the trip since we returned.
Until the next thrilling journey!
Mr Acomb
Science
British Science Week took place from 7th to 16th March and at LPGS we celebrated with a number of lunchtime workshops and activities open to all students. A number of conservation activities, including seed planting and maintenance of our pond and wildlife area took place, as well as a mini beast safari and bath bomb building workshop. The poster competition for Y7-10 students to design healthier public spaces closed on 28th March, so we look forward to sharing all your entries!
On Thursday 13th March our inaugural LPGS Science Shorts event took place, with Year 12 students delivering engaging speeches to an audience of KS3 and 4 students on various topics: from the genetics of intelligence to the use of 3D printing in medicine. The production team of students from our Media Enrichment Group are now busy editing their video footage of the talks, so look out for the release of the finished videos later this year! We also hosted our third annual Primary Science Festival, welcoming 180 Year 6 students from Impact MAT primary schools. Groups of students from Years 9 and 10 planned and delivered practical science lessons to our visitors on the Year 6 topics of human body systems, light and electricity. They did a fantastic job as teachers for the day!

Kent Champions
Barton Court 1-3 LPGS
The first half was closely contested, with LPGS having the majority of possession and creating a few more chances. However, despite our efforts, Barton Court took the lead with a goal in the 30th minute. At halftime, captain Ruby G offered to sacrifice her own position to mark their most dangerous player, number 10. This tactical change seemed to shift the momentum of the game.
In the second half, the superior fitness of the LPGS team began to show, and the reintroduction of Nisa M added urgency to their play. The pressure eventually paid off when Lissy G broke through one-on-one with the goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball past her to make it 1-1. Not long after, Eva G made an incredible save, tipping the ball over the bar when it seemed destined to go in.
Goals from Emiko C and another from Lissy G extended our lead, which they defended with confidence and composure. Every player played a crucial role in what was an outstanding team performance, cementing their place as the best team in Kent!
The game was played in front of a crowd of 160, including staff and parents who made the long journey to Herne Bay, adding to the special atmosphere of the occasion.
The team has also progressed through to the final of the Bromley cup where they will face Bullers Wood on Bromley FC’s first team pitch. The final will be on Thursday 1st May, 4pm kick off.
U14/15s Football
The U15s have had a solid season, unfortunately bowing out in the semi-final to U15s Kent Champion's Bullers Wood in a narrow 1-0 loss. Lissy G finishes top of the stat chart with an impressive 16 goals in 11 appearances. Other stand out performances come from our goalkeeper Eva G, who managed to keep 3 clean sheets, and Rayne B who achieved 12 goal/assist contributions in 8 games. A special mention goes out to Ophelia P, Maya CA and Ava T who consistently represent the school across 3 year groups, and played a major role in the final.
Hockey news:
U12 London Tournament
Our girls' hockey team put on a fantastic performance in their latest tournament, winning four out of five games and securing an impressive 3rd place finish! The team played with determination and skill throughout, with some standout moments, including brilliant goals from Rosie S.
A huge thank you to sixth former Bella, who has coached the team throughout the season and the tournament. Her guidance and leadership have been invaluable in developing the players' skills and teamwork.
Well done to all the players for their hard work and dedication—what a great achievement!
U13 London Tournament
Our U13 hockey team delivered a fantastic performance at the London Tier 3 Tournament, finishing as runners-up after an incredible display of skill and teamwork. The longer game format provided a great opportunity for development, and the team rose to the challenge, playing some of their best hockey of the season.
With goals galore and some brilliant individual and team performances, the squad showed just how much they have progressed. A huge well done to all the players for their hard work and determination—an amazing achievement!
Y10 Netball Bromley Borough Tournament
The year 10s had a fantastic tournament. We brought our A and B teams to the tournament, and started the competition with some friendly rivalry of Langley v Langley, allowing our girls to warm up for the competition ahead. Ellie W was on fire throughout the whole competition; every goal she shot went in! This helped lead the Langley As to victory and they were unbeaten throughout the whole tournament. The B team put up a good fight and finished overall 3rd. Well done to everyone who represented both teams!
U14 Netball
The Y9 netball season has been a fantastic one, marked by some incredible wins and only one loss in the U14 Bromley Borough league. The team worked hard against the top schools in Kent, to secure a strong 3rd place finish at the Kent tournament, only narrowly missing out on progressing to the finals. With such a successful season behind them, there's a lot of excitement and anticipation for what the Y10 netball season will bring next year. The team is looking forward to building on their achievements and continuing to improve. Well done!
