Your first step is to understand your own environment and take the required steps to fix installation issues. Here are the most common scenarios. Please follow the steps that applies to your situation:
- Scenario 1 – You need to install and activate a FRL license on a machine for the first time.
- Scenario 2 - You need to relicense an existing machine due to a contract renew (no applications are being deployed, only the license file) - FRL ONLINE
- Scenario 3 - You need to relicense an existing machine due to a contract renew (no applications are being deployed, only the license file) - FRL OFFLINE
- Scenario 4 – You need to install updated Adobe software. - FRL ONLINE
- Scenario 5 – You need to install updated Adobe software. - FRL OFFLINE
If you're receiving notifications about expiring FRL license files, please proceed with the steps outlined in Scenario 3
Please note: If the previous license files are not removed, users' machines will continue to display expiration notices.
If you have any questions or issues, please contact us at jelatech@adobe.com or create a support ticket in the Adobe Admin Console.
Scenario 1
You need to license a machine for the first time for FRL use:
- Step 1 - Determine if you are deploying FRL Online or FRL Offline.
- Step 2 – Download the Licensing Toolkit from the Adobe Admin Console. (Packages > Tools > Licensing Toolkit).
- Step 3 – Build an application + License Package: There are two ways to get a new package: You can get it from Carahsoft if you are a trusted agent or create it from the Adobe Admin Console if you are an Administrator. (if you have applications already you can simply deploy a license file).
Scenario 2
You need to relicense an existing machine due to a contract renew (no applications are being deployed, only the license file)
If the contract has been renewed successfully you do not need to carry out any of those steps, you just need to enable the machines to come online so they can reach the adobe server and the machines will get the updated license expiration date. (If the machines cannot come online, then you can get the license to the machine by deploying a new license.
FRL ONLINE
STEP 1 – Deactivate existing FRL licenses prior to deploying new FRL License packages. To update license usage on the admin console the Online package must be deactivated. To do that you need to first download the Adobe License Toolkit and then use these scripts:
Run the following commands with admin privileges:
FOR WINDOWS:
adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --deactivate --npdId <Unique ID of Preconditioning Data described here>
Short form:
adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe -t -n <Unique ID of Preconditioning Data described [here]
FOR MAC:
sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --deactivate --npdId <Unique ID of Preconditioning Data described [here]
View package details
Use the displayAsnpDetails for brief information of the licenses activated on a client computer.
FOR WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --displayAsnpDetails
Short Form: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe -d
For MACOS: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --displayAsnpDetails
STEP 2 - Remove Licenses
REMOVE A SINGLE LICENSE:
WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
The json file can be found within the package that was originally deployed to the machine.
REMOVE ALL LICENSES:
WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --all
MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --all
STEP 3 - Build a License File Package: There are two ways to get a new package: You can get it from Carahsoft if you are a trusted agent or create it from the Adobe Admin Console if you are an Administrator.
STEP 4 – Install the FRL Package – After you create a license-only package, follow these steps to install this license to end-user computers:
1. Extract the contents of the package.
The license-only package contains a .json file (that contains the licensing information) and the Licensing Toolkit utility:
• For Windows: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe
• For macOS: adobe-licensing-toolkit
2. To install the license, run the following commands with admin privileges:
FOR WINDOWS:
adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --install --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
Short form:
adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe -p -i -f <absolute path of the .json file>
FOR MAC:
sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --install --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
Short form:
sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit -p -i -f <absolute path of the .json file>
*A license file is required in order for applications to activate.
Scenario 3
You need to relicense an existing machine due to a contract renew (no applications are being deployed, only the license file)
FRL OFFLINE
STEP 1 - Remove Existing Licenses
REMOVE A SINGLE LICENSE:
WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
The json file can be found within the package that was originally deployed to the machine.
REMOVE ALL LICENSES:
WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --all
MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --all
NOW FOLLOW STEPS 3 AND 4 OF "SCENARIO 2" AS SHOWN ABOVE.
Scenario 4
You need to install updated Adobe software.
If you already have a valid license on the machine, you can just create application only package. You can remove the license file when creating a package on the admin console.
FRL ONLINE

FOR WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --displayAsnpDetails
SHORT FORM: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe -d
FOR MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --displayAsnpDetails
STEP 2 - Remove licenses from the computer. Run the following commands with admin privileges:
REMOVE A SINGLE LICENSE:
FOR WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
FOR MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>

STEP 3 - Build an application + License Package: There are two ways to get a new package: You can get it from Carahsoft if you are a trusted agent or create it from the Adobe Admin Console if you are an Administrator.
STEP 4 – Install the Application + License Package
Extract the contents of the Application + License Package. The Application + License Package contains a lot of Files and Folders. Locate the setup.exe

FOR WINDOWS: Execute the setup.exe
FOR MAC: Execute the installer PKG.
SCENARIO 5
You need to install updated Adobe software.
If you already have a valid license on the machine, you can just create application only package. You can remove the license file when creating a package on the admin console.
FRL OFFLINE
STEP 1 - Remove licenses from the computer. Run the following commands with admin privileges:
REMOVE A SINGLE LICENSE:
FOR WINDOWS: adobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>
FOR MAC: udo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --filePath <absolute path of the .json file>

REMOVE ALL LICENSES:
FOR WINDOWS: dobe-licensing-toolkit.exe --precondition --uninstall --all
FOR MAC: sudo ./adobe-licensing-toolkit --precondition --uninstall --all
STEP 2 - Build an application + License Package: There are two ways to get a new package: You can get it from Carahsoft if you are a trusted agent or create it from the Adobe Admin Console if you are an Administrator.
