Catholic University
- Head Coach: Rachel Palumbo (3rd Season)
- 2022 Record: 11-8 (5-2 Landmark)
Catholic will look to defend its Landmark Conference Championship in 2023 after claiming the team’s first title in seven years last season. Head coach Rachel Palumbo returns many of the key pieces from last year’s title run, seeing 23 total players returns, including eight starters and 11 players that saw action in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
Key defender and multi-time All-Landmark Selection Gracie Burford returns as a graduate student to anchor the Cardinal defense. The spine of the team remains strong with the midfield trio of Mary Parker, Kellie Caputo and Mary Rojack all back in Brookland, along with forward Niki Micciche and stand-out first-year goalkeeper Abigail Kearney all returning as well.
Catholic’s biggest loss will surely be 2022 All-Region standout and leading goalscorer Molly McEvoy. Replacing McEvoy’s 14 goals and five assists may prove a challenge for the coaching staff. The Cardinals also lose important midfielders Liv Canterino and Hanna Jacobs to graduation as well.
As always, coach Palumbo continues to play a rigorous schedule. The Cardinals will open the season against traditional powers TCNJ and Rowan before also facing Christopher Newport and Salisbury later in the non-conference season. The highly-anticipated rematch of last year’s Landmark Conference Championship contest will take place on Sept. 23 when Catholic travels to Moravian.
"This season provides an exciting new opportunity for us as we are motivated to build on what we achieved last year. With a great mix of experienced returners and promising newcomers, I am confident that this team can rise to the challenge that this year will present." - Head Coach Rachel Palumbo
