"I like the small school feel but I love our diversity. You get to know people from everywhere and all types of cultures." - Alec McDonnell (St. Charles, MO)

our roster

Approximately 70 Lindenwood Lions hail from all over the USA and beyond. Over a dozen states and countries are represented in our team. Most of our players have played some sort of representative rugby. For most it is state or province, but many have represented their country at age grade level. No matter their background, we look for participative learners who aren't afraid of hard work.

Coaching

The Lions enjoy the services of two full-time coaches, two-part time coaches, many volunteers, an assigned athletic trainer, and a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Many of the coaches are long tenured or alumni freshly back from professional careers.

Tools

Through extensive use of video review and GPS monitoring, athletes have all of the information they need to improve.
"It was a shock coming to Lindenwood from high school, but the challenge has shaped me to train harder, learn from the guys around me, and enjoy a new standard of rugby" - TJ Stoltman (Saukville, WI)

Competition

Lindenwood competes in the Midwest Rugby Conference of D1A Rugby, the toughest league at the highest level of collegiate rugby in America. Lindenwood consistently ranks in the top five teams in the country heading into the playoffs each year. The Lions have made the final rounds of this tournament seven times. 2020, however, was the year Lindenwood took the crown of the highest ranked team in collegiate rugby, ending the season at No. 1.

While every member of the team trains together, not everyone is ready for top level competition. Our staff works hard to schedule development opportunities for our young Lions while they work toward breaking into the top team. We play more matches than any other team in the country to ensure our players can earn a chance to pull on the jersey.

“No side in the country is as fast from 1-12 as Lindenwood. Every member of the squad is capable of creating something from nothing.” — Rugby Today

Sevens

The seven-time national champion Lindenwood Lions have won every major 7s tournament in the USA. We spend most of our time on XVs but rarely lose a 7s match once we switch over.

Athletic Training

An assigned athletic trainer and several student trainers look after the Lions at training and matches to make sure injuries are quickly diagnosed and recovery is swift. Athletes spend less time injured and more time working on their craft. We have outstanding medical outcomes and our players have access to the same doctors used by the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals.

Strength & ConditioNing

A University assigned Athletic Performance Coach uses our fantastic 5,000 square foot facility to build our Lions into their best. Our Performance Center includes:

  • 20 Olympic Platforms
  • Mobility and Warmup Areas
  • Functional Training & Rehab Equipment
  • Dumbell and free weight stations

Application, Evaluation, Decision

Committing to a college program is a big step. We'll guide you through it.

Application

  • Let us know you're interested in becoming a Lion by doing our Recruit Questionnaire.
  • Submit your official Lindenwood application online.

Once you've completed these three steps, notify Coach Macy and wait. If accepted, you'll be awarded an Academic Merit Award and further financial aid considerations can be made for rugby.

Evaluation

  • As you wait for your acceptance, it's wise to plan a visit to see campus and experience Lindenwood for yourself!
  • During this time, our coaching staff will want to watch any video you may have. Highlights are welcome but a full game works fine. Be sure to let us know how to identify you.
  • You can also ask one of your previous coaches to write a note to us on your behalf.

Once we have enough information on you as a player, Coach Macy may choose to award you financial aid for your on-field abilities to combine with your Academic Merit Award.

For American students, you may also need to evaluate need-based aid awarded to you based on the results of your FAFSA.

decision

Grueling trainings, long hours on the bus, early morning class, is it for you? Once you understand your cost of attendance, it's time to decide. Should you choose Lindenwood, you'll be sent a roster agreement and be expected to pay your enrollment deposit. Before you know it, you'll be on campus and having the collegiate rugby experience you never thought possible.
