The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | May 21, 2025

Happy National Public Works Week (NPPW)! Celebrated every third week in May since 1960, NPPW gives us the opportunity to recognize those working in the background to advance the quality of life for us all. They're the ones who addressed the Community Park restrooms, which, not even two weeks after reopening, fell victim to graffiti earlier this week (it was cleaned up yesterday morning within an hour), and who work hard to ensure Brisbane stays a safe, sustainable, and resilient community with infrastructure vital to the City’s public health. From the docks of the Marina to the slopes of San Bruno Mountain, thank you for all that you do. See more Council Meeting Highlights here, and remember, if you see something, say something! Submit a Service Request via My Brisbane or a Non-Emergency Police Request, or call it in to Dispatch at 415-467-1212.

Give Us Your Top Three Choices in the 70 Old County Rd. Survey

Staff and consultants from Good City spoke with over 40 people at the farmers' market last week, the location of Pop-Up Workshop #1 for 70 Old County Rd., or the former Bank of America site. Wanted to come by but didn't get a chance? No problem! Building on the March 8 open house, a survey duplicating the six vision boards that were displayed at the booth is now available to take on Engage Brisbane. Note: each of the six "visions" has two local, real-world examples + a concept sketch to illustrate potential layouts and building footprints. What are your top three choices for the site? Tell us by taking the survey, open now through June 30th, at brisbaneca.org/engage! Hardcopy surveys will also be made available at the Library, Sunrise Room, and City Hall. Questions? Please reach out to Principal Planner Julia Ayres at 415-519-0165 or email her at jayres@brisbaneca.org.

U.S. 101 Adaptive Metering Lights Implemented in Brisbane at Harney Way

Ramp Metering isn't something new at all for Bay Area freeway on-ramps, but Caltrans District 4 just started implementing Adaptive Ramp Metering (ARM) upgrades at certain locations in the County between Harney Way in Brisbane and Whipple Ave. in Redwood City:

  • Harney Way / Alana Way
  • Oyster Point Blvd
  • Rollins Rd / Broadway / Cadillac Way
  • Airport Blvd / Peninsula Ave / Coyote Point Dr
  • Fashion Island Blvd
  • Eastbound and westbound SR-92
  • Eastbound and westbound Whipple Ave

The ARM system aims to reduce traffic congestion on U.S. 101 from 5 AM to 8 PM daily by enabling the ramp metering system to adapt to varying traffic demands due to seasonal variation, weekend congestion, traffic growth, or travel pattern changes over time. Further ARM upgrades will continue until September 3 throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. For 24/7 traffic updates, follow 511.org on X. For real-time traffic, visit Caltrans' QuickMap.

Now Taking Your Nominations for Volunteer and Youth Volunteer of the Year!

The Council has committed to maximizing volunteer participation. The City Council continues to explore ways to enhance and support our volunteer efforts, including recognition opportunities.

Every year, the City recognizes a Brisbane resident as its Volunteer of the Year. After carefully reviewing nominations and letters of recommendation from residents, an ad hoc subcommittee comprised of City Councilmembers selects a recipient.

These recipients are celebrated throughout the community for their diverse contributions and unwavering dedication to improving the quality of life for Brisbane residents. They are always ready with a helping hand, a bright smile, and a positive attitude.

Nominate someone you feel is worthy of the distinction at brisbaneca.org/voy. The VOY nomination period will be open through August 30, 2025.

We’re Making Compost, Let’s Make It Healthy!

For healthy compost and clean soil for gardens, parks, and farms, we all need to do our part to keep ALL plastic out the green bin. The following video was funded by a grant from CalRecycle.

Throughout the Bay Area, curbside programs that collect your food scraps and yard trimmings use them to create compost, livestock feed, and renewable energy. Thank you for helping Brisbane create healthy compost by keeping plastic, glass, and trash out of your green bin!
