Dear MCS Family, I hope your summer is bringing you a little rest, a little joy, and maybe at least one meal that didn't come from a drive-thru. I also hope you're making time for yourself, loved ones, or picking up a favorite book. Summer reading still counts, even if there's no quiz to take or grade at the end. Even while summer is in full swing, the good work of Marietta City Schools continues. Last night, we had the pleasure of recognizing outstanding leaders for their commitment to student success and for the many ways they help make our district better. Special Recognition
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education honored Marietta Sixth Grade Academy for earning the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation from the American School Counselor Association. The designation is awarded to schools that deliver exemplary, data-informed school counseling programs aligned with the ASCA National Model. MSGA's counseling team uses data, student support programs, and intentional relationship-building to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The team has built a counseling program specifically designed to support students during the transition into middle school, helping students develop confidence and independence. Fewer than 1,500 schools nationwide have earned this prestigious designation. The Board of Education thanks Principal Keynun Campbell and counselors Dr. Kerbie Marc and Chase Colwell for accepting this recognition.
Special Recognition
The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Marietta High School Athletic Trainer Jeff Hopp for his induction into the Georgia Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame. Hopp's more than three-decade career has spanned athletic training from Georgia high school sidelines to NFL fields and Olympic and Paralympic venues. His leadership has helped shape the policies and safety standards that protect student-athletes statewide, including heat acclimatization guidelines, pitch count regulations, concussion awareness efforts, and return-to-play legislation. Before joining the Blue Devils, Hopp worked with the Minnesota Vikings, led athletic training for the Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe, and served on the medical staff for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. The Board of Education thanks Jeff Hopp for accepting this recognition.
