  • Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) - Bea

Boarders' Trip to Gravity

Our boarders had a brilliant time this weekend with a trip to Gravity in Bluewater!

On Sunday evening, Jazmine and Loreto made some escallion and shallot pancakes and these were gone very quickly with everyone tucking in – they were delicious.

'Teach the Teacher' - Climate Change

Helena, Olivia, Charlotte and Eleanor in the Upper Sixth ran a session for teachers about the importance of integrating climate change into and across the curriculum. They presented on climate privilege, climate justice and importantly, climate anxiety - how it is making us feel. The overriding messages were about how everyone can help make a difference and the need to support students to become positive agents for change. It was interesting to see how much is already being taught in subjects but there is always room for more.

Sixth Form Book Club

Primrose our School Officer for KS4 has organised a Sixth Form Book Club and last Thursday was their second meeting.

"On World Book Day last week, seven Sixth Formers and a lovely Year 10 student all met up in Tilley for our Book Club where we talked about our first book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. While we ate our chocolate eggs, kindly gifted by Mrs Gillings, we discussed the characters (particularly Atticus), the racial prejudice in the book and the gradual build up to the court room scene. The general consensus was that this book was a really good choice! Our next book will be "1984" by George Orwell!" Primrose, Lower Sixth

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award

Years 10 and 11 took part in their D of E Silver Award practice expedition in Marden last weekend. They spent three days navigating a route that they plotted themselves and two nights camping! Next weekend is the assessed expedition in Ashdown Forest. Good luck to everyone, we hope the weather is kind to you!

Gymnastics News

Year 7's Zarina, Ava and Emily, and Year 8's Amelia, competed in the U13 BSGA Milano national finals in Stoke on Saturday representing both KC & the South East of England.

The team split the apparatus and had to perform a floor routine, two vaults and a trio sequence. The team came fourth out of 12 teams and first as a region, teamed with Tormead School. To top the day off, all the South East teams combined came second. Well done to all!

Futures Programme

This week the Swiss Education Group came to speak to our Lower Sixth students about the wide variety of options available to study and work towards a career in the hospitality sector.

Our Year 12's learnt about the benefits of undertaking a practical style degree course and the value of work placements. They also saw the global opportunities available to them in such an international industry.

Plate Smashing!

Years 9, 10 and 11 enjoyed a plate smashing activity this week as part of their Sport and Wellbeing lesson with Chaplain Katie, called Meditation, Mindfulness and Mess. Pupils wrote their anxieties or worries on to the plates and then smashed them to symbolise smashing their worries away. Even Mr Mossman joined in!

Year 11 House Representatives

In assembly this week, Mrs Wootton and Chaplain Katie presented a fantastic opportunity to Year 10 students. They have been invited to apply to be one of three Year 11 House representatives next academic year. Supporting the Sixth Form Leadership team, these roles are designed to encourage and promote house spirit, welcome new students into their house, develop in-house activities and events and much, much more! This is an incredibly exciting opportunity which we hope many Year 10 students will choose to apply for.

If you are in Year 10 and would like to apply, applications need to be submitted before 12pm on Tuesday 16th April 2024 to either Mrs Wootton or alternatively to Mrs Johnson, Pastoral Lead.
