Year 6 into 7 enrolment process We have had an overwhelming response to the Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Year 7 2027 enrolments. The next step for parents of Year 6 students is to complete an online application of enrolment form. You may have already received this via email or one can be found on the enrolments page on our website enrol for 2027 all year groups here . Coastal Academy of STEM Excellence Marine Research Students from our Coastal Academy of STEM Excellence have been working alongside Dolphin Research Australia to study the seagrass ecosystems in Cudgen Creek. This is truly real science, our students are not simply completing worksheets, they are actively collecting and analysing data with professional researchers, contributing to the protection of an important local conservation area. One of the unique advantages of this program is the school’s proximity to Cudgen Creek with students able to walk directly from school to the creek, gaining access to an invaluable marine ecosystem that no other local school can offer. Our program fosters strong partnerships with our 6 local partner primary schools, providing younger students with authentic exposure to high school science. This real world experience helps build excitement and confidence as they prepare to transition to secondary education. Kingscliff High School is proud to offer one of the leading STEM Excellence programs in NSW and the only one on the coast. Through collaborations with Dolphin Research Australia and universities, our students contribute meaningfully to international marine research, showcasing the high standard of learning opportunities available right here in our community. CLC Schools P&C Meetings This week, it was a pleasure to attend the P&C meetings at both Cudgen Public School and Pottsville Beach Public School. I had the opportunity to meet many primary school parents and look forward to welcoming them into the Kingscliff High School community and sharing the many great programs we offer. Parents expressed a strong interest in how we conduct interviews with all Year 6 students transitioning to Year 7. Our close collaboration with partner primary schools helps us develop a comprehensive understanding of each student before they arrive, supporting a smooth transition and ensuring every student is known and cared for. There was great enthusiasm for the Creative and Performing Arts opportunities available at Kingscliff High School, including the CAPA Winter Showcase, Far North Coast Dance Festival, Schools Spectacular, school band, and access to our recording studio. Parents also highlighted the talented athletes preparing to join our Sports Excellence program, appreciating the expert coaching both internally and externally, and valued the support we provide to help students balance demanding training schedules with their academic responsibilities. Lastly, parents welcomed the thorough process we use to identify high-potential learners and extend their learning through our Year 7 and 8 Extension classes (formerly known as Pinnacle classes). They recognised the significant professional learning opportunities this brings for our staff, creating a positive impact across the entire school. GENERAL NEWs
COASTAL GUARDIANS ACTION DAY
The future of Cudgen Creek was in the minds of our Year 7 and 8 Kingscliff High School and Coastal Learning Community primary school students that attended the Coastal Guardians Action Day at the Cudgen Creek Foreshore last Friday 8 May. The event was led by Academy of STEM Excellence Project Officers, Mark Wiggins from Kingscliff High school and Liz Edwards from Bogangar Primary School. In partnership with Dolphin Research Australia, Kingscliff High School students conducted water quality testing as part of an ongoing program to help preserve seagrass beds in Cudgen Creek. The seagrass is a crucial component of the marine life longevity in the beautiful Cudgen Creek and is part of newly formed Tweed – Byron “Hope Spot,” 1 of 165 locations worldwide due to it’s extremely diverse marine ecosystem. The Dolphin Research Australia team leaders, (Isabela and Liz) provided the Kingscliff High School students with water testing equipment and skills to test the water quality and measure seagrass coverage that nurses the fry, (tiny fish) of the creek and absorbs a significant amount of carbon dioxide (more than trees). The primary school students conducted a local wildlife monitoring assessment and collected debris from the Cudgen Foreshore Park. They sorted all the items to reveal what the main debris are in the area. There was a total of 234 items collected, the most prevalent were 47 cigarette butts, 25 plastic bits and 25 plastic packaging items over 0.02km2 over 25 minutes of search time. Another highlight of the day included Xander, Year 7, participating in an interview with Isabela from Dolphin Research Australia and NBN news that went to air last Friday. This special day was enjoyed by all the students and is the starting point for ongoing Seagrass monitoring to identify changes to the testing findings and hopefully discover why seagrass is in decline.
YOUTH WEEK

THE GOOD HUMAN FACTORY

Kingscliff High School is proud to share that Year 12 student Archie has been selected to represent the electorate of Richmond at National Youth Parliament from Sunday 16 to Thursday 20 August 2026. We congratulate Archie on this outstanding achievement. Delivered by the Department of the House of Representatives in partnership with Y Australia, the program will bring together 150 secondary school students from across Australia to Parliament House and the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House) for an immersive five day experience. Over five days, participants will take part in hands-on experiences including simulated parliamentary debates, workshops with political leaders, and policy discussions, building their understanding of how Australia’s democratic system works. More than 2,200 young people applied for National Youth Parliament, highlighting strong interest in civic engagement among secondary school students. Archie was selected through a highly competitive, multi-stage process, with more than 2,200 applications received from across the country. Their application demonstrated a strong interest in civic participation, leadership, and community engagement. Y Australia’s research shows young people care about issues like housing, cost of living and healthcare but often feel they don’t have a say. National Youth Parliament provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop confidence, leadership skills and a deeper understanding of how they can engage with and contribute to Australia’s democracy. 2027 YEAR 7 EXTENSION CLASS APPLICATIONS CLOSE 22 MAY
2027 Year 7 Extension Class (formerly known as the Pinnacle Program) Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for the 2027 Year 7 Extension Class (formerly known as the Pinnacle Program). Extension classes:
- provide learning opportunities that nurture the talent development of high potential and gifted students across learning areas
- provide accessible, inclusive pathways for high potential and gifted students across the domains of potential
- cater for local students with demonstrated or emerging potential in 2 or more domains of potential. They focus beyond the academic domain.
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) domains of potential often overlap, and evidence suggests that integrating students who excel in different domain areas can support learning outcomes. In 2027 our Year 7 Extension Class will focus on talent development in the intellectual and creative domains of potential for students by providing extended learning opportunities across all subject areas. The creative domain focuses on fostering students' abilities to generate original ideas, think divergently, and express themselves through innovative and imaginative activities. It encourages nurturing creativity across various forms such as writing and problem-solving to enhance students' expressive and inventive capabilities. The intellectual domain emphasises the development of advanced cognitive skills, critical thinking, and deep understanding across academic disciplines. It supports students in engaging with complex concepts, abstract reasoning, and higher-order thinking to challenge their intellectual potential and academic achievement. We will foster a stimulating and supportive environment where students engage in rigorous, challenging learning activities. Students will be led through opportunities to cultivate both their curiosity and creativity, challenge their intellectual thinking, and build confidence and resilience throughout their academic journey. Learners will be inspired to develop their talents, pursue excellence, embrace challenges with enthusiasm, and cultivate a lifelong passion for discovery, innovation, and meaningful contribution to society. The Show Society is a whole of shire society, and they sincerely want to increase involvement from schools and youth in the Agricultural Society. The Murwillumbah Show has been running since 1898. It is one of the longest running country shows in Australia, having only been halted 10 times for wars, flood and pandemics. It celebrates an important part of the heritage of the shire, and that is of the timber cutters and farmers who first came to the lands of the Bundjalung Nation and began creating the towns and industries that we see today as the Tweed Shire. This year the show is on Friday 30 October 2026 and Saturday 31 October 2026.For more information, interested students are encouraged to contact the Show Secretary (secretary@murwillumbahshow.com) or see Mr Haines / Mrs O'Keeffe
