He was in his elementary school’s choir, joined orchestra in middle school, and put together two bands during and after high school.
21-year-old, Alexis Gomez, has always had an interest in music, but he didn’t start considering it as a career for himself until the end of high school.
During his senior year of high school in 2014, Alexis and three of his friends started a small band called ‘The Revamp Project’. They went on to perform cover songs and compete in local competitions around Irving, Texas. After a few months they started writing and eventually released a five song EP called ‘Prologue.’
After graduating in 2015, the band let their fans know through Instagram they would not be continuing as a band. Their schedules and distance between their colleges would not allow them to work together.
Before the band broke up, Alexis took a chance to start a solo career and decided to audition for ‘La Banda’, a Spanish-language singing competition show.
“I feel like the only reason why I went through as far as I could almost to the show was because people showed interest in what I was doing for my stuff,” he said. “It’s just crazy to me.”
Alexis was cut during the stages before making it on to the live auditions, which are shown on television, but that did not make him give up.
Two years after graduating, Alexis and his friends reunited and created his second band, Dare2Dance. Like ‘The Revamp Project’ they started by performing song covers at local competitions, and eventually started to write their own. After working with a producer, they put together a six song EP and shared it with fans and friends.
During his time in the band, Alexis decided to attend Cedar Valley Community College to expand his knowledge in the music industry. From the way it was produced to the way it was marketed, he says he wanted to learn every aspect to help him with his music.
A few months later, he was essentially kicked out of the band. Alexis posted a statement on his social media accounts stating “I do not want to be a part of that brand anymore, nor do I want to be associated to what it becomes.”
One of his friends, Ari Rodriguez, says Alexis is dedicated to his music, but he always has fun with it.
“Over the last year and a half he’s taken his music more seriously,” he said. “He’s extremely motivated.”
Alexis told Ari about an opportunity to work with a producer in Nashville, but said flights were to expensive and he did not want to take a road trip on his own. Even though they had only known each other for a few months, Ari offered to go on the trip with him.
In Nashville, Alexis and his producer, Austin Shawn, experimented with different genres to see and hear what best fit his voice. After trying out and singing songs in several genres, Alexis finally found a perfect fit for his voice; rock.
Upon finding his ‘sound’, Ari and Austin helped Alexis write what would soon be his first single as a solo artist called ‘Bitter Crown’.
On July 12, Alexis took to Twitter to announce his new solo project and what he had been working on in Nashville. Since then he has been continuing to promote his song, and has even gotten radio play overseas in small stations.
Alexis says he wants to continue polishing his musical skills, and hopes to eventually tour and inspire others.
