Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter

FRIDAY 5th June 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a wonderfully busy week in school. Today we were delighted to welcome our visiting teachers from Lesotho, who will be working collaboratively with us, Ysgol Llywellyn and Ysgol Emmanuel over the next three weeks. This afternoon, the Youth Service joined us at Grange Road to present certificates to pupils who completed the Phoenix Course — a fantastic programme that helps young people develop communication, teamwork and respect. Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Headteacher

Famau have been cooking a pasta vegetable dish this week in cookery.
Dosbarth Alwen have been making a beach collage for their new topic “holidays” So far they have added swirly white and blue shapes for the sea, and curvy orange and yellow shapes for the sand. As our topic develops we will add more items and people to our beautiful backdrop. Da iawn Dosbarth Alwen.
Dosbath Tryfan was supporting Christy from BCUHB-CAMHS to improve a document that they had created to make an easier read for pupils and parents/guardian which support young adults transitions from school to further education.
Dosbarth Enfys have enjoyed lots of seaside themed activities this week including ‘sea’ craft and messy play.

Information & Other Events

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
