MVC Cross Country Week 2

The MVC had 6 teams place first in their respective races, 3 MVC student-athletes finish first, and 22 top 5 finishes. In the USTFCCCA week 1 regional rankings, The Valley saw 7 institutional rankings in the Midwest and South regions.

Enzo Marie, Jr., Drake (Marigny-le-Lozon, France) - Enzo Marie with his personal best of 23:36.5 won the Red Division (second overall) of the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational men’s 8K race at Mahoney Park Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Drake men’s squad won the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational team tile on Saturday.

Kaitlyn Vanderkolk, Jr., Belmont (Brentwood, Tennessee) - Vanderkolk took first place overall at the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State. The Junior stopped the clock at 17:10.0 in the 5k to claim the personal and team victory. Vanderkolk bested racers from MVC rivals Indiana State and Evansville. In addition, Vanderkolk bested racers from Indiana (#7 Great Lakes) , Purdue(#15 Great Lakes), and Kansas State (#10 Midwest).

Claire Fuhlhage, Gr., Illinois State (Olathe, Kansas) - Claire Fuhlhage placed second at the Redbird invite with a time of 21:41.8 setting her personal best in the 6,000-meter race. Led the Redbird women to a first-place finish against MVC teams UNI, SIU, UIC, and Valparaiso.

WOMEN

  • Nadia Potgieter, Bradley
  • Nadia Potgieter, one week removed from her season-opening victory at Western Illinois, went back-to-back and took a record-breaking victory in the three-mile event. Potgieter is the first Brave to win the three-mile event since McKenzie Altmayer in 2019. Potgieter ran the race in 16:11.2 to set a new record for the fastest time run in the women's three-mile event at the Bradley Intercollegiate, breaking the old mark of 16:21.5, set by Lucinda Crouch from Wisconsin in 2021. Potgieter finished ten seconds ahead of second-place Olivia Borowiak, the individual champion of the 2022 Bradley Intercollegiate.

nOTEABLE PERFORMANCES

MEN

  • Jayde Rosslee, Bradley
  • Winner of the men's race at the WIU meet last week, repeated the performance by winning the 8K race, making it two wins in two collegiate meets for the freshman from South Africa. Rosslee completed the race in 24:04.1, three seconds ahead of second place. Michael Rebello finished third with a 24:08.7. Rosslee's and Rebello's times are good for the fifth- and sixth-fastest 6K times in Braves history, respectively.
Belmont will host the 2023 MVC Championship, October, 27th in Nashville, Tennessee
