Celebrating in June!

Pride Month

  • Pride Month is celebrated in June to honor the Stonewall Riots (1969), a major event that sparked the modern LGBTQ rights movement in the U.S. Stonewall riots.
  • Pride Month recognizes the LGBTQ community’s fight for equal rights, celebrates achievements, and raises awareness about ongoing challenges.
  • The first Pride march took place on June 28, 1970, called the Christopher Street Liberation Day March, marking the start of annual Pride celebrations. Christopher Street Liberation Day March

Juneteenth

  • Juneteenth (June 19) marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed they were free, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Juneteenth honors freedom and Black history, remembering the struggles of enslaved Black Americans and celebrating their resilience and contributions to society.
  • The holiday also encourages action, such as learning about racial inequality, supporting Black communities, and reflecting on justice and equality in America.

National PTSD Awareness Month

  • June is National PTSD Awareness Month, created to raise awareness about Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition that can develop after traumatic experiences such as accidents, assault, military combat, or natural disasters. Symptoms may include anxiety, depression, or substance use challenges.
  • PTSD affects about 9 million U.S. adults, with women being more likely to experience it than men. Early diagnosis, professional support, and personalized treatment plans can help individuals manage symptoms and improve mental well-being.
