Frogs

What a great start to the Summer term! this term our book in Literacy is, 'What the ladybird heard.' As part of their homework challenge, children have brought in their Bug Hotels to share with their friends. They talked about how they made them and are placing them in our outdoor areas. When working in the outdoor classroom, Frogs are really excited to look for new visitors that may have moved into the bug hotel. The children have enjoyed learning all about ladybirds and have enjoyed creating their own with various collage materials and paint.

In maths, Reception children have been developing their skills in forming numbers and writing subtraction number sentences. They are becoming very confident in writing their numbers. Through various activities, nursery children have also been practicing forming numbers in their play.

OPAL

The children are loving OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) and being outside altogether at lunchtime. The playground and field have been full of lots of imagination and creativity, and they have shown fantastic teamwork, imagination and respect for each other. They have enjoyed building castles and forts with the tyres and sticks and being with their siblings in the younger year groups.

We are always grateful of any donations so if you do have anything you could bring in for OPAL, please bring it into the school office.

Cygnets

Cygnets have made a fantastic start to Summer Term. In English, we are reading the book ‘The Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram. This has linked really nicely to our History topic ‘The Moon Landings.’ Children created their own moons using paint and looked at the timeline for the space race. In Maths the children have begun to look at fractions and have been finding halves and quarters of shapes, objects and quantities.

Swans

Swans have been busy diving into to the world of space! In English we have been reading ‘Man on the Moon’ and taking this opportunity to research all about the life of astronauts, life and jobs in space. This has also fed into our new history topic ‘The Moon Landings’ where so far, the children have been learning about the Space Race between the USA and the USSR. The children have really immersed themselves into this topic!   We can’t wait to start our ‘Clay Houses’ topic for Art & Design this term and will be sharing lots of pictures of us having fun and getting our hands dirty!

Kingfishers

Kingfishers have had a very busy couple of weeks to start off their Summer term.   We have embraced our new English book, 'Charlotte’s Web', and spent a lot of time analysing the characters of Fern and Wilbur.   We have enjoyed the start of our DT topic, investigating the changes in technology over the years, and enjoyed quizzing Mrs Dolby on the changes in technology from when she was little until now. In such a short time there have already been so many advances! 😂

We have already dug deep into the history of the Romans, identifying the  expansion of the Roman Empire.   We have enjoyed getting outside more for PE. Mrs Kearns and Mrs Dolby have taught us the correct form for sprinting, and how to correctly throw for distance. We have some budding athletes of the future in our class!   We also have embraced our cricket workshops, enjoying some fun games and learning how control the bat when hitting the ball.

Turtles

Turtles have had such a brilliant start to the term. Our new Art topic is Mega Materials. We are going to have so much fun in Art as each week is experimenting with different materials. Our first week was soap! We watched tutorials on how to create a design first and then used a range of tools to sculpt with the soap; it is safe to say the classroom smelt amazing. The children worked really carefully to bring their sculpturers to life. I wonder what our next material could be... Wow, Turtles RE knowledge has blown me away this term. Our new enquiry question for the term is 'Does completing a pilgrimage make a Muslim a better person?' The children have created some wonderful work and have been so engrossed in their learning. I am so impressed with their knowledge and how much effort they are putting into their work to learn and respect different world views.  Turtles are such multiplication whizzes! The children have been practising and having a soundcheck on TTRS each week and aiming to score 20/25 or more each week. What a fantastic achievement that nearly all of our children are already at the 20 and above mark. Brilliant effort! The children's presentation throughout every lesson has been beautiful as you can see from their geography work. Turtles have taken their time and effort to ensure that their handwriting is neat and presented beautifully in their books. This is fantastic and I am so impressed with the quality of work produced this term. Keep up the hard work.

Seastars

What a busy start to the new term for Year 5. We have truly dusted off the post-Easter-blues with a wide range of practical and engaging activities across all subjects. We have started our new art topic focusing on self-portraits and the many ways in which we can use our image to create innovative pieces of art. As geographers we have demonstrated a fantastic knowledge of North America, and used the atlases to support our understanding. In maths we have deepened our knowledge of decimals, and can now use an efficient method to order and compare decimals and fractions.   We are looking forward to the weeks ahead, particularly the additional cricket enrichment and also jumping back into the swimming pool for our final set of swimming lessons.

Blue Whales

Blue Whales have started the term as they mean to go on: focused, determined and very, very happy! Lots of smiles greeted us on the first day back after a well-deserved Easter break. The children have hit the ground running with lots of maths and spag revision coupled with many opportunities to show their wonderful skills in writing. With the SATs tests in sight, the children are looking forward to demonstrating how well prepared they are, and also for the flurry of DT and art tasks we will complete as a reward for their wonderful attitude and hard work.

Keep up the fantastic work Blue Whales!

Orcas

Orcas have been working hard across the curriculum. In English, they have been exploring house advertisements and writing their own persuasive versions. They are also putting in a great effort in both English and maths as they prepare for their SATs next month. In science, the class learned about the fire triangle and carried out an experiment to see how long a tea light would burn under different glass containers. In PSHE, they took part in a Transition Talk Show, discussing their thoughts about moving on to secondary school. Last year’s penguin painting competition win led to a special reward: a free ice-skating lesson. The children were taught by a coach and learned how to skate forwards, backwards and turn, finishing with a fun disco on the ice complete with flashing lights! In PE, Orcas have been developing their cricket skills, learning how to hold the bat correctly and strike the ball safely. Meanwhile, in French, they have been learning how to tell the time, including phrases such as et quartmoins le quart and et demie.
