Lilac Scribbles

Hello All and Welcome to another edition of Scribbles. Thanks for being here!

We celebrated Montessori Week by discussing facts about Maria Montessori. She was born in Italy, became a doctor, which was rare during her time. She chose to work with children that were poor, deemed "ignorant," and unable to learn. She proved them otherwise as the children excelled in her first school called Casa dei Bambini. Much of what we do in our classroom today is based upon her research and observations. Dr. Montessori also firmly believed children are the key to a peaceful world.

We had several discussions about peace and hopefully the children recognize peace has different meanings for each of us. There were several art projects pertaining to peace and we learned a song in sign language, "Light a Candle for Peace"!

We couldn't let the month of February pass without discussing Chinese New Year. We had fun discussing the Chinese zodiac, animals the children were born under and characteristics of the animals. The children made lanterns to chase away all the bad from 2025!

Practical Life

H e l l o March! A new month means changes in practical life. New - hammering golf tees, using a lemon squeeze (oops, no photos - however, the children are squeezing water from sponges)

We've taken off using the mortar and pestle to grind egg shells. Instead the children are using chalk as a pestle to color salt. The end result is such a beautiful work!

Science

We introduced another group of vertebrates - amphibians. The children have learned to date: amphibians live part of their life in water and part on land, are cold blooded, hatch from eggs, most have moist skin. The most common amphibian is the frog (which we will study). Newts, salamander and caecilians are also amphibians. Newts and salamander resemble lizards. Caecilians resemble worms.

Mrs. Ahamed presented Ramadan. It was a beautiful and very informative presentation. She shared all about how she and her family celebrate. Mrs. Ahamed also shared a book about Ramadan celebrations in various countries around the world.

Our poem for March was penned by our very own Mrs. Nair!

March comes dancing through the air With windy songs and skies so fair. Winter waves a soft goodbye As warmer days are stopping by!

That's it for now. Hope you've enjoyed taking a peek at our last two weeks. Until next time... Brightest Blessings!
