Procedural Writing Lesson

Second graders learned the value of clear directions through hands-on writing

Otselic Valley second grade students in Mrs. Marston’s class recently explored the importance of clear instructions through a fun and memorable procedural writing lesson. Students were asked to write step-by-step directions explaining how to brush their teeth. The lesson became even more exciting when Mr. Gross visited the classroom to follow the directions exactly as written. With a few missing steps and some unclear instructions, students quickly discovered how important it is to be specific and detailed when writing procedures.
