The Blast

City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | March 4, 2026

They say Brisbane is the “hidden gem” of the Peninsula, and the Alvarado–San Benito Stairway is quickly becoming one more reason why. Construction is substantially complete, with a few remaining punch-list items to be finalized in the coming weeks. Given this, the stairway is not yet open to the public and has not received final inspection clearance.  For everyone’s safety, we ask that residents please refrain from using the stairway until the City formally announces that it is open for pedestrian access. We sincerely appreciate your patience and share in your excitement.  We would also like to extend a special thank you to the neighboring residents who have lived alongside construction over the past nine months. We hope you share in the pride of seeing this beautiful new community connection come to life.

VIDEO: Sign up for Email Updates using Notify Me

With the launch of the City's new website last week, you have come across a button that didn't exist on the former site - Notify Me®. What is that? Notify Me® allows web users to subscribe to email and/or text message notifications from the City. As an added layer of security, Notify Me® requires users to create an account with CivicPlus, our website Content Management System, and sign in prior to subscribing. The video below shows the steps one would take to create an account, as well as how those who are already receiving emails should create an account or sign in to review their current subscriptions and sign up for any additional ones that interest them.

"Ready - or Not" Emergency Preparedness Project

In November 2025, Assistant to the City Manager Caroline Cheung responded to an email from the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), which was offering free emergency preparedness services to California organizations that care for cultural and historic resources (e.g. archives, libraries, museums, and tribal nations). This statewide initiative, funded by the State of California and administered by the California State Library, would only be available until May 2026. Last Thursday, Caroline welcomed Emergency Preparedness Consultant Julie Bly DeVere for an on-site emergency preparedness assessment of the City's Archive Room at City Hall, as well as its History Room located in the Brisbane Library.

In the coming weeks, staff will be reviewing Julie's Emergency Preparedness Assessment Report as well as templates or guides for disaster planning before convening a meeting with the History Subcommittee.

2026 Emergency Preparedness Calendar & Safety Tip: Candle with Care

Speaking of disaster planning, the best way to face them is to be prepared. See the following Emergency Preparedness Calendar from North County Fire Authority. This month's to-do's are to: update Emergency Contacts and to create a Medication List for everyone in your home.

When we break of tasks into smaller chunks, that's when things start getting done!

You'll see the calendar in the April issue of the STAR; plan to tear out that page and put it up someplace where you'll be able to refer to it throughout the year.
