Newsletter 13/5/24

Thank you

Thank you for your generosity in collecting for one of our pupils, Aiden-Leo, who is undergoing cancer treatment. We raised £687.30 to be spent on something he will enjoy. I know his family have also sent out their thanks.

Sports Day

We brought Sports Day forward this year to give us more time to rearrange if the weather is poor. The forecast for this week is still uncertain and is constantly changing. Given that many parents will have booked time off work we do want to cancel on the chance of rain and then it turns out to be fine. We will only cancel in advance if it is absolutely clear it cannot go ahead and we will text as soon as the decision is taken. Please don't block the telephone line ringing to ask in advance of the text.

Tomorrow is Nursery Sports Day. At the time of writing, it does look like there is a chance. that is worth taking, of the rain holding off until after we will have finished. But the forecast keeps changing and is different according to which app you look at. Therefore we have decided to make the decision in the morning, by 8:45am at the latest. Please do not tie up the phone lines by ringing to ask.

If it's not raining but the grass is slippery, we may decide to go ahead but on the junior playground (which has been done successfully previously).

If it does not go ahead the reserve date for Nursery is next Tuesday morning (21st May).

At this point the forecast is saying that infants sports on Friday morning should be ok to go ahead but there is a small chance of rain for the juniors in the afternoon. Please bear in mind that we also need to consider the condition of the field if there has been significant rain before the day. Again, a decision may need to be left until Friday morning.

We have the potential to rearrange one or both to Wednesday next week (22nd May).

Please refer to the Sports Day guide linked here for instructions about where to wait, gate opening etc. It's really important that parents read this and support us to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Some children from our satellite class will be taking part in some races during the Juniors Sports Day. The satellite class will also be doing some activities with parents in their garden at the same time. We have arrangements in place for parents of children in the satellite class to be able to drive into the car park if they are going home early. This is for the satellite class only and parents are reminded not to block the gates. Also, please park away from site (not in the lane) so that Blue Badge holders (parents and grandparents) can park in the lane. Thank you in advance.

Swimming

A quick reminder to parents of children in Years 3 & 4 about swimming after half term - information linked here.

Your contributions towards transport are very much appreciated. The decision to advertise the full cost and to ask for a suggested minimum voluntary contribution was taken in consultation with the parent forum after considering the responses from parents to the trips survey last term: some parents said they would be happy to pay the full amount, other suggested a contribution of £25 (higher than the £20 previously asked) was fair.

We appreciate the lunchtime timing of lessons is fat from ideal but this was around availability at the leisure centre for the number of children we were seeking to take.

Class Organisation

Please remember to get in touch with your child's class teacher before half term if there is anything you would like us to consider before class organisation for next year. If you would like to know more about this (why we have to do it, how we do it) please see our website, linked here. Classes will not be announced until the very last week of term. This is not disorganisation on our part, it is to avoid any reorganisation if children are admitted by the LA towards the end of this term.

Budget

Many of you will have read in the news that headteachers across Wales are worried about funding and that in some local authorities they have issued letters to parents. Wales Online Article  I will be meeting with Governors to set the budget for this financial year before half term. We will continue to provide the most that we can with the funding we have but it is getting harder and harder to do.

Parent Governors

We have had difficulty in filling the parent governor vacancies on our Governing Body this year. Currently we only have one parent governor and we have three vacancies. If you are interested in filling one of these positions and would like to know more, please see the information on website here. If you would like to volunteer, please complete the form that will be emailed out tomorrow by Monday 20/5/24. In the unlikely circumstances that we have more than 3 volunteers an election would need to be held. Our next meeting is Wednesday 22/5/24 after school and if no election is needed, new parent governors would be welcome to attend.

Don't forget there are no clubs next week as staff are meeting with Governors, and that there is an INSET day on Friday 24th May and Monday 3rd June. Our final INSET for this year is Friday 19th July. INSET dates are for mainstream classes only. Children attending the satellite class are on role at Trinity Fields School who arrange their training separately.
