The Chargers hosted Penn on Saturday and came away with a split with the Kingsmen. In game one, Penn jumped out to an early lead scoring two early runs from a walk and an home run. After that, Carroll starting pitcher Adler Kellams settled in and pitched a very good 5 innings limiting the hard hitting Penn line up to just two hits while striking out 6. Aiden Stephan picked up the win holding down the Kingsmen offense as well until the Charger offense pulled out the victory. Stephan went 2 innings, allowing one hit and struck out 2.
The offense picked up one in the bottom of the first inning when Kellams walked , stole second base and then scored on Carter Iron’s bloop double. Carroll then tied it up in the second when Aiden Corzine had a two out single and then scored on Kellams double. The score remained tied until the 6th when what appeared to be a routine double play to get the Chargers out of the inning was thrown away and allowed Penn to take a 3 – 2 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Rhett Swoverland led off with a double. Swoverland then moved up on a wild pitch and then tied the game up when a soft single by Eli Ledger scored the game tying run. Aiden Corzine then doubled and came around to score the winning run and allowed the Chargers to walk off the Kingsmen on Riley Geiger’s double.
In game 2, Geiger got the Chargers started early with a first inning home run. Blake Fitzpatrick then doubled and Patrick Cain with a bunt single got Fitzpatrick to third base and later scored on a hard ground out by Aiden Corzine. The Chargers remained in control of game 2 through 5 innings leading 3 -1 before the game got away from the Chargers.
Kellen Harrison was very good through 5 innings on the mound allowing just 2 earned runs and striking out 6. A couple of errors by the Carroll defense were too much for the Carroll pitching staff could overcome. Penn took advantage of the Charger miscues and scored 7 in the 6th and another one in the 7th to get the game 2 vicory.
