ELA: This week students will continue their focus on elements of a narrative, focusing on how setting can inform understanding of a text. Students will present their 1960s Historical Context Projects prior to our reading of the classic novel The Outsiders.
Read180: Now that students have read about the exciting rediscovery of the lost city of Thonis-Heracleion, they will take a critical step toward a deeper understanding of “Gateway to the Mediterranean” by identifying a central idea of the text and analyzing how the author uses details to develop that idea. Students will also learn the suffix -tion. They will uncover ways that a dictionary can help them to explore words, such as confirming a word’s meaning or spelling. They will learn pronunciations, parts of speech, and meanings of unknown words as they practice using a dictionary.
9th Grade Lit: This week students will continue their analysis of epic heroism in Greek mythology. Students will identify key examples of the characteristics of an epic hero while reading the myths of Perseus, Achilles, and Hercules, in preparation for our reading of The Odyssey.
Social Studies: This week in Social Studies, student will start Unit 2 covering the early American Indians from the time of European arrival, European exploration, Spanish Conquistadors, and the early Georgia colony. Students will have a short mastery quiz on the content at the end of the week on Friday.
